Customer Reviews

Excellent problem solver. If you have a situation where space is tight, this might be the solution for you. I needed a couple more inches of clearance under my desk for my PC and a couple other things. This gave me the clearance I needed.Installation sucked, but that's probably just me. I don't much like working at floor level, which is where most outlets are. It took me about 45 minutes to get it installed. It was just a matter of enlarging the hole where the old box was, removing the old box, and reconnecting the outlets in this new box. In retrospect, maybe I should have left a little more wire when I first installed the outlets; that would have made the whole thing easier. Also, make sure your outlet plate will fit in the recessed box. In my case, it was cheaper to go buy a new plate to match my outlets than it would have been to replace the outlets. I have traditional duplex outlets, not the more modern rectangle type that the included plate is designed for.4Great old work box, worth the $$So worth the money!! Girlfriend wanted tv over the fireplace, and of course did not want ANY wires showing so off I set to mount television. Mind you there are no outlets or cable or hdmi or anything of the sort up there. I used the four gang edition works well for lots of low voltage jacks and comes with a divider to separate high from low voltage connections for safety and code purposes. it has four old work wings that hold the box in from coming out and then a trim ring with white finished screws to keep the box from pushing into the wall cavity. Our house has plaster, yes plaster not drywall, and there is a a plaster layer over the brick fireplace, so I was able to cut into the plaster and slide the work box in there. I definitely would use this box again and love it.5Works well and is easy. Be aware that it's pretty large, though. This is pretty great. I tossed the electrical and GFCI plates that come with it and installed a keystone plate (for ethernet). I have two ethernet cables that come out behind my wall-mounted TV and there is just no room there. This works perfectly and was very simple. The only thing I don't like about this is the size. I had to expand my hole by a lot to fit it in. I wish they would make actual face plates that simply went back into the wall a bit and didn't take up so much space. Besides the wall cutting, the problem with the size is that the top of this now peeks out over the top of my TV, which the previous (non-recessed) plate did not.One other small bone, the hole at the bottom wasn't *quite* large enough for me to fit an already installed ethernet keystone jack through. Had to take a rat-tail file to it. I suppose I could have taken apart the jack, pushed the wire through, and then installed it again. But what a pain! Anyway, they could have made it just a couple of mm bigger and it would have helped a lot.Anyway, it does its job and was real easy, so I guess it gets 5 stars.5Good product, fragile faceplate.I ordered this 3-gang recessed outlet box to sit in a wall within our porch that we are adding to our home, so effectively new work . The part arrived with Amazon s usual speedy time frame which was good because we were in sort of an install time frame. Unfortunately upon opening the box the plastic face plate was shattered into three or four pieces. There was no foam peanuts or packaging material of any kind. I reported the product as damaged to Amazon and return instructions were sent to my email and a replacement was being issued. This set us back at least two days.Upon receiving the replacement it went in very easy. Again, the install is effectively new work so it really was very easy. Upon installing the face plate it - you guessed it - cracked! And please trust me when I say I was not over tightening the screws. Over tightening occurs when you torque the screws until snug, go past snug to tight, and then go past tight to overly tight. Please believe I never even got to snug! The plate just cracked! Luckily it didn t crack in two separating the plate into pieces, but a large crack none the less. This plate is definitely not nylon or pvc, but thin plastic. This wouldn t be a huge issue if the recessed plate was a standard size and easily replaceable at a store. It s not; it s slightly smaller than a standard face plate.I figure now that s installed and will technically be hidden behind a television it isn t worth the hassle to return it.The box is very sturdy and solid. Then they throw in a $0.25 face plate and ruin the whole thing.3Sized for wall wartThe box was used to hang an AmbientWeather WS-2000 display unit - very easy install. The cutout is larger than standard single gang but is hidden behind the WS-2000 display. The outlet mounting box is large enough to accommodate the WS-2000 power supply (wall wart). The screws (pictured) on the outlet mounting box were installed by me, 6/32 machine screws - used a tap to thread the box. The outlet mounting box frame is more than thick enough to allow secure threading.5Works exactly as you'd expect I installed a post-construction, double gang outlet box behind my TV when I hung it on the wall in the bedroom. Problem is, with a regular outlet, the plugs stick out from the wall, making them difficult if not impossible to plug in. This recessed outlet box was EXACTLY what I needed. Now, the plugs can be accessed and plugged/unplugged without un-hanging the TV. Some comments: First, I'd mount the TV and get it where you want it, then see where the best place to have your outlets is. My TV is on the wall with no hutch/credenza/entertainment center, so I don't have a DVD player connected to it. I have an Apple TV and a Firestick (Apple TV sits on top of the top edge of the TV), and both require outlets. For this reason, I put the top of this box almost even with the Top of the TV (maybe 1/2" below). You can't see the outlets unless you stand right in front of the TV and look down behind the top, but I can still access the plugs. Also note that this thing is BIG, but does use a slightly smaller than standard double-gang plate inside of it. It also goes the entire depth of a 2x4 stud wall, so if you cut the big hole required and find there's something behind the sheet rock (diagonal brace or something), you'll have to either remove the obstruction or make mods to the box. Great product. 5Truly Great Product1) Very well made2) Plenty of room for connections. I had 3 12/2 w/grnd wires and this box was able to handle all that wire with ease3) Easy to install. I had a "old work" installation and the "flippers" were very sturdy, not like the big box store blue box old work flippers4) The trim plate looks very professional.5) Single gang specifications 3 3/8" wide, 6" tall, 3 7/8" deep. The deep measurement includes a 1/2" drywall so it will fit any standard 2x4 stud location with 1/8" to spareJust a comment on the packaging. It is a very nicely packaged product. But it looked so big I thought I ordered the wrong product and almost returned it without opening. LOL5Great recessed box with all of the necessary installation hardwareInstalled this behind a low profile TV bracket. The different face plates are an excellent touch. This is a very sturdy box. I did measure the inside edge myself and cut the hole in the drywall a bit smaller than what's noted in the installation instructions. This made the fit very snug, making for a very secure installation, even before tightening the screw tabs.5Plenty of space for a GFCI / AFCI outlet Used this 1-recessed box to run electricity for a gfci for a small tv in our bathroom. Very easy to install. The 12/2 w/ground conductor was held securely in place. It has plenty of space behind for a gfci and more conductors. It's about the size of a deep single gang box. I cut the hole that was stated and it was a perfect fit. Works as an old work or new work box. 5Not the best design for the 3/4" knockoutsThey really ough to make a metal version with this same x4 outlet layout, the current 4 gang metal they sell has 2 gangs that are low volt open back. This plastic recessed 4 gang isn't very sturdy, it's brittle. So drilling out the 1/2" knockouts to 3/4" , so that it's 3/4" in per slot, is a no go without risking to crack the whole thing. See the problem is each knock out size is directly over each other. 3/4 down 3/4 up and 1/2 down 1/2 up alternating gang slots. If you're using 3/4 connects and using heavy duty outlets like shown in my pic... the top or bottom edge of the back of the outlet will touch the 3/4 connect lock nut. Making every other gang be a royal pain in the you know what to make fit. So if you're adding four 20 amp to 30 amp or higher circuits... I would buy two of the 2 gang recessed metal box they sell instead. This thing is nice, just not very stable or practical for anything above 15 amps a per slot. If you are doing 15 amp circuits and only using the 1/2" knockouts, then this could be for you. I'd say that would be it's perfect use case. Good luck!4Great item, well built, but Very bigI liked this product a lot and i bought it so i can put power behind a mounted tablet in my shop. the only reason its not getting 5 stars is bc this thing is huge. If you dont mind the size then this thing is perfect. It comes with everything you see in the picture as well as the hole where the power will come through inside the wall already has a gromit so you dont even need to punch anything out. just keep in mind those plug covers are standard size so you can get any color or shape you need but that help you visualize just how big it is since they are completely inserted into the box. if your getting this for a TV install i would recommend something else since you can get something a little bigger but it already has the spots for the low voltage wires to get pulled through too.4Fits Google Home Mini plug for flush installFits the Google Home Mini plug to allow for something (dresser, TV, etc) to be pushed flush up to the wall.Super easy to install (standard 2x4 drywall cavity)Option for either pressure mount against drywall or side screw into stud (I did both for the hell of it)Face plate easily covers drywall cutsOptions for wiring to be fed from top or bottomCons:Two screw holes on faceplate (one for pressure mount tabs and the other to screw in the faceplate cover). It would be nice if the pressure mount screws were recessed on the box and could be covered by the faceplate.4Looks great! I bought this to add a recessed outlet above my light switch for a tablet that I have hanging in front of it. It was super easy to install, but is very deep! Make sure that it will fit before purchasing. It fit in my wall, but is touching the other wall. Build very well. 5
