Looked great but didn t work I was so excited to connect my MacBook Air to my iMac display with this cable, yet after following all the steps in the instructions and online, I couldn t get the screen mirroring to work. I made sure both were compatible from apple s website and still after hours of trying I came to the conclusion I decided it wasn t worth anymore of my time. I will be returning it for a refund. 3Works as designed It says in the product description that it does not support "Target Display Mode".This is what I bought it for, this is what "Display Port" is designed to do, and this is exactly what it DOES!I have a 2009 IMac, 27" Retina display used as the "Target Display" connected to a 2015 IMac 27" Retina display used as the main display.I now can expand all applications SPANNING accross both displays. (You have to turn off "Each display is its own space") 5Inexpensive and functional I use it to connect the Macbook Pro to the Imac and use the Imac as a monitor. I have had it for a few months and it works fine. 5Works for certain arrangements in Target Display Mode This cable works very well for connecting a mid 2010 MacBook Pro to a late 2009 iMac 27" to use the iMac in target display mode. This allows you to have a second external monitor for the laptop. This does not work in reverse. In my set up, audio is conveyed through the Mini DisplayPort cable, but a separate USB cable is necessary for audio to be transmitted if the MacBook Pro was built prior to mid 2010. Great cable at a lower cost than other brands! 5Works as it should! Ok. I have a late 2009 27" iMac and a late 2012 21.5" iMac, both of which support Target Display Mode from another source. In this case, from the 2012 (which now runs Mojave) to the 27" (which doesn't, so stays on High Sierra). Since they sit next to each other, all I needed was a 3' cord. White is a good color for the rest of my setup (wood, silver/metal and white accents).As soon as it arrived the first thing I noticed was the really nice, professional packaging it came in. The cable itself feels like a quality construction and came with end caps. I plugged one end into the Thunderbolt port (which supports Mini DisplayPort cable) on the source Mac (21.5") and the other end into a Mini DisplayPort jack on the target Mac (27"). Bingo. The screen from the source immediately appeared on the target. Works as it should!Bonus: sound comes from the source Mac, too. Really happy with this product! 5Target Display Mode Executive summary: this cable finally got target display mode working for me.Geeky Details: Apple allows iMacs to be used as external monitors using something it calls Target Display Mode. I tried driving video on a 2009 iMac using a 2011 and 2013 MacBook Pro. I could not get an official Apple thunderbolt cable to work, despite a lot of claims that the TB cable is backwards compatible with DisplayPort cables.So I bought this. It worked without issue.Unrelated gotchas: Apple keeps jacking up the function keys. COMMAND-F2 works for my 2011 and 2013 model MBPs. But you may need to hold down the FN key as well. 5Gold Plated Mini DisplayPort Cable - 6' I have a late 2009 iMac 27", and a 2012 Macbook Pro (MBP). I wanted to connect the MBP to the iMac and use the iMac as a target display in conjunction with my MBP (dual screen action). This cable is perfect for just that! I've connected, and now enjoy dual screens, extending my workspace in the process. Be careful to check your systems' inputs (on both devices) to ensure that you get the right cable ... I confirmed this particular cable at one of a couple sites online that I easily found, and a few days later ... magic! 5Great price! I remember when you used to have to pay $30 for a cable like this. MIND you this was the cable i needed to use an older decommissioned iMac as a second monitor, THUNDERBOLT will NOT work. This is what you need. 5Great for older iMacs as Target Displays While I am sure this works great for customer's who have Mid-2010 or older iMacs that they are using as Target Displays, this product is not compatible with newer models of iMac as a TDM cable. The Seller needs to update description from generality of compatibility to state that this cable will only work if the iMac is mid-2010 or older. See Apple Article -https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT20459. Apple states that after Mid-2010, the cable must be Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt, not Mini Display to Mini Display. It should also be noted that the 5k Retina iMac does not support TDM at all according to the footnote in the article.The product loses a star based on the seller's description being inaccurate and the product not meeting my needs. 4
