Plastic coating was chipped and peeling already! I haven't tried the microphone yet, as I purchased for a photo shoot. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of the item though. I expected it would be plastic (because of the price), but the plastic coating was chipped and peeling right out of the box! I mean, come on...if it's not gonna sound amazing it should at least look amazing. I have other Pyle microphones and am super pleased with the look and sound. This was a huge disappointment. I'd send it back if I didn't need it this week. 2great Retro Mic for the price I'm not a good sound man. My Sound man thought this mic was not for us. I'm the public speaker, he's,the DJ. We do a number of charity events together. I gave the mic to a friend who does DJ work on the side and he loved it. I saw a YouTube video of him at his 60th birthday party with this mic and he sounded great. Bottom line, for the price this is a great retro microphone. Get the silver model. I was drinking when I bought the red... 3Poor quality. Not worth the savings over a better microphone. The quality on this microphone is definitely less than I'd hoped.In the details, it said "Rugged Construction & Steel Mesh Grill". It doesn't feel like rugged construction and the steel mesh grill must be hidden inside because you can't see anything metal on the unit, other than the angle adjustment screw.In re-reading the item description, it does mention that it is plastic construction, however, it is list under a bullet point regarding pickup/polar pattern, so I apparently didn't read that line item well enough. Kind of seems to be hidden under another area so that people won't notice it is clearly cheap plastic construction.There was also a rattling noise inside when moving it around. After a few minutes, a small piece of metal fell out. I have no idea if this is a spare piece of soldering material or something that is broken. After that fell out, there is still another rattling noise, so I can just tell that it is very poor quality and not something the intended gift recipient would want.The last quality related complaint is that by simply picking up the microphone for the first time, the small plastic "on/off" bezel around the power switch was stuck to my hand. I pulled it off of my hand and realized it was part of the microphone that I had to stick back in place. I can only imagine that this would soon fall off and turn up missing under normal use.I'll be honest, I didn't even plug it in to test it. I am not willing to put up with the quality issues, even if it sounded decent at this point. 1Great Vintage Microphone For Software Based Amateur Radio Communications and Chat Programs Such As Paltalk I read the comments concerning this mic... first of all, those of you who are making the bad comments are not reading the specifications of the microphone, second, this particular mic is made of plastic (42BK) and there is one Pyle sells for that comes in a metal case. Do your homework! I bought this mic because I wanted something vintage and not expensive for my chat, Skype and for using it on Echolink (Internet based Amateur Radio Communications program). This mic suits that purpose. After setting it up and having adjusted the volume levels on my soundcard, this microphone works beautifully and my voice is clear on the receiving end of the conversation. I have attached a couple of photos of this mic on a an Audio2000 AST 421 Microphone Desktop stand that I also bought on Amazon. It's the perfect height. With my software, I control the PTT (Push To Talk) with the space bar on Echolink and with the chat program, the PTT is controlled by the CTRL key (keep in mind the on and off switch on the microphone must be left in the on position when using it on these programs). I absolutely recommend this microphone to all my Ham Radio Buddies and to all who want a simple but inexpensive microphone for chatting or Skyping. I will be purchasing the Pyle 68BK (Metal Casing) to add to my collection. Shipping was fast and received everything in working order. 5Don't be discouraged Avoid reviews from people who obviously dont know how to read product descriptions or leave bad reviews instead of returning a faulty item. This product is exactly what you are purchasing. It had surprisingly good sound and I love it. And yes, I've been recording and performing music, analog and digital, for almost 25 years and it works if you know how to do things correctly. 5Authentic "retro" mic, plastic body finished in a high gloss chrome. Great value for the money... This mic was purchased as a stage prop for a dance. It's made of plastic which a high quality chrome look finish. When it arrived we were surprised how authentic it looked and have since plugged it into a mixer to test the audio which was equally impressive considering it's cost. In case you're wondering, yet the mic includes a cable that terminates in a 1/4" phono plug (at the time I made the purchase, the product listing was not clear that the cable was included).The bottom of the mic screws into a standard mic stand making it a great choice if you're looking for an authentic "retro" mic. 5Amazing Sound, Affordable Price! Whats not to love! I LOVE THIS MIC! I have a Heil Fin Deco-Style Dynamic Mic, which I LOVE. Being in a retro style band, the aesthetic is important to us. We recently added another guitarist who is able to do back vocals. So of course we want to keep the mics on point. However the price point of the Heil is just not something we can afford to outfit everyone in the band with and I can't expect a new member to purchase a 250$ mic. I looked at the Shure 55SH as well, and that is about a 159$ buy in. Still not viable to make everyone match. So after some checking the PDMICR42SL specs matched the higher end mics. I was fortunate enough to find it at 15.99, so totally worth trying it. I have to say, the first day it came I had rehearsal. I slapped it on the mic stand, did a quick EQ through the board and it was right on point with the Heil I've been singing through for two years now.I have also purchased the pyle PDMIC78's as well. Also amazing. Do NOT let the price fool you. After a side by side comparison of the 78 with the Shure SM57, you can barely hear a difference. Amazing products from Pyle! 5Fabulous sound and range. It actually sounds better than our Shure mic. Worth trying out! We love it! If you are looking for a mic with a good sound and good range without spending a lot of $$, this is definitely your mic! We have a 1950s band and recently decided to purchase one for use during practice and frankly, it is stage worthy. It has BETTER sound and range than our Shure mic! You don't have to have your mouth right up to it to get picked up. This is great for having 2 singers on one mic, too since the range is so good. I wouldn't necessarily recommend having more than 1 of these on stage because they may pick up too much background noise that way but on its own - I highly recommend it. We were VERY skeptical of this mic and were VERY pleasantly surprised.I will say I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because where you thread it onto the mic stand, seems a little delicate due to being plastic. The microphone sounds great. My only gripe is that it's made out of plastic. I didn't read the product description closely enough. If you are in a punk, metal or any other group where people are jumping around on stage, this mic probably isn't durable enough for you. 3Looks cool, sounds good, cost -$25! If this thing gets a signal it is worth $24! Yea, it's plastic, but the black one looks awesome! Plus it comes with a cable.Edit: I attached this to my mic stand, connected it to my behringer keyboard amp/practice pa and it sounds as good as any other mic I've used(including Shure, nady, Samson). The black looks really cool. I'm no snob about brand name or workmanship...I care that it looks cool and sounds good. This mic does both. I even like that it is plastic because there is less chance for interference. 5
