Customer Reviews

Absolutely garbage design and poor quality I only gave 1 star because 0 stars is not an option. This thing is probably one of the most cheaply made items of its kind I've ever seen.As you'll be able to see in the pictures I've provided, there is a round brass nut pressed into both sides of this unit used for mounting this thing to whatever surface you desire utilizing the included bracket. The problem is, that after applying about 3ft lbs of torque to the supplied knobs, the brass nut spins freely within the housing. Obviously this makes tightening this housing down impossible. Inherently with this design flaw, you will have a radio and housing that flops around with any movement or vibration of your vehicle/vessel.That defect aside, every other aspect of this unit simply screams cheap.I returned mine for a refund. 1Hey it Works, just treat it right, its made in china<<< weak face cover hinge buyer beware updating my review for this item and it looses one star, as has been mentioned the cover on this unit is crap, after a few days in the heat it broke off on the right side hinge, its all abs of some sort there is no wire retainer of any kind in there so after opening and closing less that 50 times i lifted it up and noticed it was hanging off that left side... everything else is the same, going forward i would look into a stronger unit if you need your stereo to be sealed from the elements, me personally i can live without it on my setup... i just received my case, installed the pyle PLMR88W marine radio inside. Many reviews have mentioned several things i would like to address, in my box i received all the hardware that i was supposed to however that instruction sheet is lacking- to say the least... if you look at the rear of the case where the wires exit the unit you will notice embossed wording which details what wire is what- please know that i installed a same brand din radio inside this and the wire colors were very different, All of them... nonetheless it can be done with patience and good light, youll need the right angle to see the markings. Then there is that strange plastic piece that is left over from manufacturing i presume i could see no possible use for it except as maybe a template if you wanted to install the entire box into your dash or wall or whatever, there is a foam strip that i used to line the inside of the smoke cover where it meets the dropbox, if you do this take care to align it properly so that the neoprene gasket surrounding the chassis can still make proper contact for proper sealing. Small white foam circles presumably go on the mounting arm but your guess which side is as good as mine. the lid does seems a bit tender but i realize i paid a good price so i will treat it accordingly, read carefully when opening and closing it. the good thing is the stereo i installed has remote control, so i wont be opening and closing it so much, i will just be sure to not loose the remote as i have for so many radios in the past. you do get what you payed for and in this deal you do get a little more for less money imo just treat it right, its made in china. 3Won't secure DIN type radio Looks like it would work pretty good. I did not have the hinge trouble others have mentioned. Will not secure a DIN type radio in place, and to modify it to accept a DIN mount per the instructions makes it un-returnable as you must remove the shaft type mounts. Tried it with a Sony Marine radio and a Kenwood bt7250, neither of them would secure in this. If your boat takes a small wave such as can be made by a jet ski, the radio falls out of the enclosure. Also, the instructions are a joke, they are images that do NOT include all the parts enclosed and no text. Probably good for the illiterates out there, but not for anyone who actually can read. By the way, when was the last time you saw a twin shaft mount radio for sale? Did it include an 8-track too? IF your electronics are from this century stay away from this. 1Poorly made Chinese product PLMRCB3 is a poorly made pc of trash. Lid gasket barely stays in place. Front plate gasket is extremely difficult to set with radio in. Had to cut front plate to fit a standard Pyle marine radio. Wiring does not have additional positive wire for memory (Once you power off you loose all your settings) You would think a company that sells stereos wouldn't overlook such a major detail. Wire color coding is just stupid, doesn't even match their own radio wiring colors.Would never recommend product to anyone. Only gave it one star because more than zero was required 1Not stable and no way to keep cover up while using stereo front. I like this and I don't. I like what it is. I have it mounted just like the picture, the weight of the stereo makes it back heavy so it is always tipped backwards. Anytime you are using the front of the stereo the lid is in the way, there is no way to keep it open which gets aggravating after a while when programming or scanning stations. 3White is ground... and black is a speaker wire....? Not impressed... I went ahead and started connecting wires without looking at the back of the thing.. because in car audio land... red is power, black is ground, blue is remote, and then the paired colors are speaker with the black stripe indicating the negative... NOT this thing... plus there is no remote wire on the back so now I have to drill a hole.. but it did allow me to mount a head unit on the roof of my RZR, so it's not all bad.. just pay more attention than I did. 3Poor quality, ancient wiring scheme Nonexistent instructions, random wire colors that don't match any known wiring standard--Green or black aren't ground, red isn't power and none of the speaker codes match the colors on my radio wiring. Two black wires, you have to look at position to tell them apart. Worse, there is only one positive wire, so unless your radio is so old it doesn't have a digital display you have to choose between turning on and off with the vehicle or losing your presets every time you turn the vehicle off. (I cut the end off one of the preamp wires for one of the power connections). The holes in the mounting bracket are smaller than the bolts, and if you put any significant pressure on the nuts in the housing (as you would if the holes are a bit small) the nuts break free of their glue. They didn't fall out, but they did spin when trying to tighten, I put blobs of epoxy putty on before final assembly. 2A great enclosure for mounting on top of the deck or below.... well made, supplied with everything. I read many of the positive and negatice views, and really can't understand why it received so many negative views, if the installer has some basic knowlege how to take an item apart and put back together they should not have any issues. The manufacture supplied everything necessary to install this enclosure. Once you take it all apart, including the small plate on the rear of the unit held together with six small screws, it is easy to add, and or use existing wires for their components. I didn't use the provided installation bracket, yet is was sufficent to hold component and enclosure in place, I used a direct method supporting the enclosure with 1/4-20 bolts with pvc spacers to mount on a bracket I made years ago to support an underdash CD player. Many said they were not able to mount a back brace to suppport the back of the radio, I find that laughable, with a few measurements and a tinnerman nut it was eash to mount the back of the unit using the supplied bracket from the stereo manufacture, and and a pan head screw, washer and rubber gasket. I was also impressed I could easily see the stereo display through the blue tinted cover. Nothing negative about this unit..... you can install the unit either with the door up or door down... I tugged on the door didn't break, I am sure this will work fine hitting waves with the door closed. I mounted my door with the hinges on the bottom since I couldn't see the unit with the door open with the hinges on top. This enclosure is well made and will support being supported directly by attaching through the enclosure. All in all I am very happy I chose this particular enclosure, and the price from Amazon made it an easy choice, I would have paid fifty dollars for this enclosure. I ordered and received within three days. 5Not a good product This is not very good quality... Installed in boat which required alot of work to re-wire head unit, etc and within a couple of weeks the door on the front of the case just randomly broke off at one side. Thinking it may have already been broke, but not all the way and opening it caused it to break completely... It was used with care only opening and closing of door on front after installation... Would not recommend as this is not very good and will likely break with normal use. Waste of money and time and will need to be replaced...again.... 1Zero Instructions and funny color codes. Price is about the strongest selling point for this item. It has about zero instructions, funny color codes, and not all the mounting hardware. The little "instruction" sheet that comes with this is just that, little. There's three tiny images on it and not much else. There's no mention of where the gasket goes, no mention of where the little white pads go, and no mention of how to connect all the wires to the radio. And I never did find the "Support Shelf for Radio in Rear of Housing." There's also some kind of black plastic plate that looks like a place to mount a radio but, of course, there was nothing on the instructions about it.Most everywhere, including the radio that you'll stuff into this, probably has a black wire as ground. Not this unit. Mine came with a light blue wire marked as ground and the black wire marked for the speakers. The only mounting hardware included is the knobs that hold the housing into the bracket, screws for the faceplate onto the housing, and some little screws for mounting brackets that don't come with the unit. Yes, it's pretty standard not to include mounting hardware, the stuff that actually holds it to the boat, but ads usually say "mounting hardware sold separately." Not "stainless steel mounting hardware." Just an oh-by-the-way, the built in nuts that hold the enclosure to the bracket are actually brass, with what appears to be stainless steal screws in the knurled knobs. Can you say, "dissimilar metal corrosion?" Granted, it won't be much but it will be there. After all that, this is what I did:I mounted a Kenwood KMR330, with only the front speakers planned for hook up at this time, into this unit. The Kenwood uses a wiring harness with plug that makes it fairly easy to connect all the wires. I soldered all connections and used liquid tape over all connections and on the bare wires ends left exposed on the wires I'm not using at this time. That includes the built in wires on this enclosure. They're stripped back about a quarter inch and the wires are left exposed. I didn't want a bare wire connection, that runs inside and out, left floating around my radio. Then I used several zip-ties (not included) to bundle the wires together and just neaten things up a bit, and also to hold the unused wires together so I could store them in the very back of the enclosure. There's plenty of room for the extra wires though the antenna wire is a bit stiff and didn't want to cooperate when I slid the radio in. The pre-amp out RCA plugs do not have any kind of covers or storage places so plan on doing something with them if you don't use them right away.I then took all the extra wires on the back of the enclosure, cut off the bare wires, insulated and waterproofed them, and bundled them together with another zip tie and was able to get them to curl together enough that they'll hide in the little cutout area on the back of the enclosure. I didn't want to cut them off because I might end up using them after all. And, there's no way to temporarily remove the wires you're not using right away.Yes, I'd buy this unit again, just on the price point and it looks pretty cool, but I was really disappointed in the door and gasket seal. Once the stick-on gasket is stuck on the inside of the door, I guess that's where it goes- no instructions, the door wouldn't close and latch without using a bit of force, or striking it with the heal of my hand. Now, I understand that the seal is new and it might take a bit to "settle" in but I'd think just a bit more lip on the latch would make a huge difference. And, two of the faceplate mounting screws had a very hard time going back in. And yes, I know how to replace screws in plastic without stripping them out, been working electronics over 30 years.Overall, for the price, this in not a bad unit but three things would make this a huge winner: Actual instructions, a door that closes and latches easily with the gasket in place, and let's make the ground wire black like the rest of the world. 3
