Customer Reviews

oliver@oliverhowes.com This thing rocks! For the price it offers a lot of features and works really well. The light is easy to install, just need your basic power/neutral and ground wire. The electrical box I was installing it into was tiny, but it fit. I did wrap the outlet terminal screws with 2 layers of electical tape for added protection. The screw terminal are the stab and screw kind, they seem to bite into the wire and hold it well. The child protection is smooth, I have other outlets where you have to use some force to plug something in, this outlet does not have that problem. The dimming feature is really awesome and simple to use, really couldn't ask for more. There is a short delay for the night light to turn on, another reviewer said dark pants set it off, not sure how that is happening. 5I love this nightlight! After weeks of fighting with my children about pulling their plug-in nightlights out off the walls and then losing them, I knew I had to find a more permanent solution.First, I bought the Leviton T6525-W 15-Amp 125V AC Combination Decora Tamper Resistant Receptacle with LED Guide Light. It worked but the light wasn't bright enough for me nor my kids. Then I bought this Cooper Nightlight and the difference was like night and day. The light shines just as bright as a plug-in nightlight, if not more. I love the features as well. It has a manual on/off setting. You can switch from Night Light mode to Guide Light mode with 3 dimming settings. To switch between modes you have to press and hold the nightlight for about 10 seconds. When you see it flashing, then you know you've switched modes.I used the Leviton 80401-W 1-Gang Decora/GFCI Device Decora Wallplate, White and it matched up just fine.I have 3 of these installed in each bedroom and they work like a charm. No more stumbling around in the dark or turning on room lights to check on children.CON - When you turn your lights on or off, you have to wait about 10-15 seconds before the nightlight responds. When I turn off the lights at bedtime, I constantly have to tell my children, "Wait for it...". Now it has become a game :-) We count 10 seconds and the nightlight magically appears. 5Great outlet/nightlight combination! We REALLY like this item!We have a single-gang outlet right at the top of our stairs. Previously, our upstairs hallway was dark, and our only option to have some light was to leave the large overhead light on all of the time. This item solved that. We had originally considered getting a plug-in nightlight, but none of the ones wed looked at were attractive to us. We looked at old-fashioned bulb-type nightlights, but those use much more electricity and the bulbs can get dangerously hot. We're getting the light to make the hallway safe for our children, after all! There are a few plug-in nightlights on the market with newer LED lighting technology, but these were both more expensive, ans many didn't throw out very much illumination. This unit was perfect for us. The light itself is better than we could have exptected - it throws plenty of light, and is adjustable to 3 different light levels to suit your particular needs. It's not only energy efficient when running, but the ambient light sensor turns it off when the surroundings are bright enough that it's not necessary. And the outlet itself features tamper-resistent technology to prevent the mixing of small fingers and utility voltage.Installation was as easy as any other outlet, and took perhaps a total of 2 minutes to remove the old outlet and install this one. I did appreciate the ability to back-wire the outlet as this makes installation even easier. All in all, this is a great item! 5Versatile unit but possibly poor quality control. I bought 2 of these. 1 is broken out of the box. It seems like a very handy versatile little thing though. Of course Amazon made exchanging the failed unit totally hassle free, but still.....a 50% failure rate is bad. Skewed data because of only 2 units but it is what it is. Poor quality control or the company is cherry picking units based on the sales outlet. <<<>>>> Today as I was removing the "defective" unit to install the replacement quickly and painlessly sent to me by Amazon, I gave the button one last push after I unscrewed it from the wall. The switch worked! OK....that's weird. So just out of curiosity I screw it back in and it sticks again! I back off the mounting screws literally 1/8th turn and the switch works. So it seems on this piece, the body is flexing the slightest bit. No, I'm not cranking down as hard as I can on the switch either. I've installed hundreds of switches and outlets of all kinds in my life. I bought 2 of these and treated this one no differently than the other one. So I'm keeping it as well as the replacement piece Amazon sent because it's a useful little thing. I'll find a place for the 3rd one somewhere. I'm just adding all this in case it somehow benefits someone else. 4Great Night Light If you're looking for a nightlight combo, look no further.I have tried many and this Cooper version is by far the best.It has a much warmer color temp than the Pass & Seymour or the Leviton. At full power it uses .75 watts and is dimmable to 75 milliwatts or .075 watts. Also features an on/off setting. And an always on setting for bathrooms or dimly lit hallways.I usually prefer Leviton to Cooper, but this receptacle combo is by far the best in its class. 5 stars. 5The unit installs very easily. It s just a replacement of the outlet plate ... The indoor path from my basement family room, to the bedrooms is obviously dark at night. In order to prevent family members from having to turn on, and potentially leaving lights on all the way through the house I was looking for a night light solution. I bought three different products including the one listed here. I m posting the same review in each product for simplicity.First, the SnapPower Guidelight - Outlet Coverplate with LED Night Lights, Duplex. This was the product I had the most hope for, and it was the most disappointing for the purpose I needed it for. The unit installs very easily. It s just a replacement of the outlet plate cover and of the three products, it was the easiest to install. My problems, which may be only pertinent to my needs and use of the light are twofold. First, the amount of light is not really adequate. If it the only light you are relying on to navigate a dark hallway or other space, it s not bright enough. I would use it in a bedroom though, perhaps for a child that wanted some light. The second problem was the light sensor is not sensitive enough. The light stayed on almost all the time, unless it was very bright (think full sunlight) in the room. This is not a disaster as the LED lights are very energy efficient, but just something that I think could be improved.Second, the Legrand-Pass & Seymour NTL885TRWCC6 Nightlight with Two 15 AMP Outlets with Cover. This unit took more effort to install than the SnapPower as it was an outlet swap-out. It also required a new plate cover, the same kind that covers a GFIC outlet works perfectly, but is something else that must be purchased. The Legrand is brighter than the SnapPower light and was very adequate for lighting the dark hallway. It however suffered the same short coming in that the light sensor was not sensitive enough and the light stays on most all day long. It is not installed in a dark, long hallway either and I know about, and did adjust the sensitivity. It was just not adequate from keeping the light on most of the day.Third, the Eaton TR7735W 3-Wire Receptacle Combo Nightlight with Tamper Resistant 2-Pole. Installation was similar to the Legrand-Pass unit. It did however require that both the neutrals be twisted together and a short pigtail wired be used to connect to the single neutral post on the outlet. Add one wire nut, and one very short piece of 14-gauge wire to installation. This unit also required a new plate cover, the same as used to cover a GFIC outlet. It also replaces one outlet with a nightlight, so there is a trade-off. For my use, this was not an issue as the only thing that ever gets plugged into the hall outlets is a vacuum. As for function, the Eaton outperformed the other two in both brightness (which is adjustable) and light sensitivity. It turns the light on at a ambient light level that is just when you need it to come on. It is off during the day, on when you need it. I ve be buying more of these units to light the path all the way to the bedrooms in my home.In rating these, I didn t consider the ease of installation as they were all fairly easy for me, but if you re not comfortable changing out an electrical outlet either hire a pro, or go with the SnapPower Guidelight. Otherwise, opt for the Eaton, unless giving up an outlet is not an option in which case the Legrad-Pass is the best solution. In any case, any of the three are superior to a nightlight sticking out of the wall and I would recommend any one of them. 5good alternative to plug-in night lights I have installed 4 of these in my home and my family loves them. They look a lot cleaner than the automatic night lights most people are accustomed to using. They do have a 10 second delay for turning on/off in case that bothers some people. The wire is pretty straight forward for any DIY-er out there. They are adjustable in case you need a dimmer glow coming out of them. I would recommend them and have definitely gotten compliments on them from family and friends.Update: 03/14/16These are still going strong. We like their look in our home. Just makes things look a lot nicer than the plugging ones. Good luck! 5Easy to install & fairly bright night light This item was easy to install, and the night light it throws is fairly bright. The only issue I have with it is that the night light doesn't turn on or off instantly when the hallway light is switched off or on. It appears that a certain amount of time has to pass before the night light either automatically turns on or off. Nonetheless, we are very happy to see how bright and warm the light is when we do need it: getting out of the bedroom to get to the bathroom. The light automatically turns on when it gets dark enough in the hallway. I would purchase this again. If you found this review helpful, please hit the "Yes" button to encourage me to write more. Thank you! 5Works well. Brighter than levitron. Bit confusing to configure, but solid once you have it set up right. I'm pretty happy with this nightlight outlet. I got it because I have small children who like to pull out and otherwise mess with night lights. That's dangerous and also always results in my nightlights getting lost.I previously purchased the levitron one of these...looks the same but it's $5 cheaper and it is noticeably dimmer. The levitron would be good for a smaller room but I wanted something with more light, for a big room. I moved the levitron around the corner and am now happy to see this flooding the room with light. It's adjustable, which is nice. You should be able to make it work in whatever configuration you want. The light is on the yellow side of white while the levitron is on the blue side. Both are LED.The initial setup of this guy was a bit of a hassle. Hold the button down for 15 seconds (or more) and it flashes, which changes it from always on or always off mode to the mode where it sense darkness. Hold it down while the light is on to adjust the brightness. Sounds simple but it's confusing because it's not responsive. Pressing the button turns it on and off. It communicates back by blinking. Overall, I would have preferred some mechanical switches on the back to set the mode.Anyway, once you have it set up, it works well. It doesn't turn on and off instantly like the levitron. There's a delay. Also this unit requires a much darker room before it turns on. All the lights have to really be off and it has to really be dark outside. Anyway it works well for my use and I recommend it.I'll probably keep this one in the great room and get a couple more levitrons for places I want to light up but that don't require as many lumens. This is adjustable, but why pay more for a product that puts out more light if you don't need the extra light? 5Works fine, easy install, easy to adjust -- but at initial installation be aware of the sensor's delay before light activates Works great, easy to install, easy to adjust. Two notes:1) light does not react instantaneously to sensor -- i.e., after sensor is blocked, there is a delay before light turns on, and vice versa when light hits sensor, there is a prolonged delay before light turns off. (At initial installation I thought nightlight was DOA when it didn't turn on as soon as I blocked light to the sensor with my thumb -- I was ready uninstall and return it when I decided to test again with more patience...)2) although quite bright at its highest setting, light doesn't actually illuminate very much (maybe because of the relative dark hardwood of our hallway). Instead it works more like a lighthouse -- i.e., more like a marker that indicates where the end of the hallway is (where the outlet is located). I think this is because the light lens is design for diffusion/dispersion to all directions (including upward) rather than directing the light to illuminate more of the floor, base of walls, things around it.Still, I'm pretty happy with it -- we still have use of an electrical outlet and the nightlite has a much cleaner, more built-in look than any plug-in one. 4
