Customer Reviews

Works well for travel trailer Update 10/25/16: I received a replacement monitor from eRapta yesterday and was able to test it today. With the new monitor the picture is stable from all 4 cameras and has good color as well. eRapta worked hard to make sure I was satisfied with their product and I am appreciative of that. I can now see close up and far from the back of my 30' trailer using one camera to look straight back and another to look down the back of the trailer. I can back right up to the trailer parked behind mine in the storage lot and be confident I'm not going to hit anything. The two side cameras fit right in on the front of the trailer on each side, allowing me to see down the side of the trailer on the blind side while backing into a spot. I can also use the cameras as a rear view mirror when traveling to keep an eye on what is behind me. I connected the 4 camera leads to the power cable provided at the trailer tongue and then used a 30' 13 pin cable to run through my truck and connect to the monitor on the dashboard. One connection to make each time I hook up the trailer. Thank you eRapta for sticking with me and getting this system to work. My previous problems seem to have been caused by a bad monitor, which eRapta replaced with a slightly different one. All is working great now. Great service eRapta! And much thanks to Selina!Original Post. After installing the system with 4 cameras the monitor flickers on and off and color flickers as well, mostly just black and white. Emailed toerapta@hotmail.com for support and got permanent failure. I followed the limited instructions to install on my new trailer. Took hours to run all the cables and drilled several holes. Returning the product is a daunting prospect but may be my only course of action. Very disappointed. UPDATE 10/17/16: Selena with eRapta has been working with me to resolve my issues. In order to have the cameras on the trailer and the monitor on the dashboard of my truck I needed to run a 30' long 13 pin extension. If I connect the monitor directly to the "Power Cord" on the trailer the monitor on/off flicker seems to go away but the color still flickers. eRapta is sending out a new monitor to resolve the issue. Selina has suggested that I connect the monitor to the power in the truck, although they do not have adapters to do that. I will update this review with results on how that works. I have updated my rating from 1 star to 3 because eRapta is working to resolve the problems and it just may be my application does not work well with the system. I do get mostly a black and white view on all the cameras, which I can live with, but the on/off flicker is so irritating that I just turn the system off. I really hope to get this working well. 5Multiple defective parts, terrible picture. Do not buy this. The only good thing I can say is that company is very quick to replace defective parts. Customer service advice is variable, sometimes defensive and denying that there could possibly be a problem, sometimes offering unhelpful suggestions ("check that it is plugged in to 12 V"), and other times apologizing and sending replacements, depending on which "Selina" you get. I am on my third complete system now, the first two monitors and one monitor power cord were all defective. Now all four cameras are working (but they have not yet been rained on, see other people's reviews). The picture is terrible. In sunlight it is grainy black and white. In shade the colors are bizarrely off (trees are lavender and purple), and sometimes the sky is all you see, the road behind you and all objects are just indistinguishable black. Really, after the immense amount of trouble I had getting this junk installed, it's disappointing to have such a very poor picture that it's unusable. 1It was easy to install and works great Purchased this backup system for Christmas and finally got it installed. It was easy to install and works great. Installation was as simple as hooking the red wire up to power and the black to ground. Reversed the mounting bracket and mounted one camera under the rear bumper and ran the camera cable under the truck using zip ties. Worked so well I purchased another one for a relative. 5I'm happy with the quality for only paying $200 I installed this on my 1990 Winnebago. I'm happy with the quality for only paying $200. I installed 4 toggle switches for switching between cameras because I did not like how the button on the screen operate. Once you would switch to full screen using the monitor buttons you would have to hit the mode button and cycle though a bunch of different screen options to get back to the quads display were I plane on normally running it. Not easy to do when driving. With the toggle switch once I switch it of it automatically goes back to the quad view. If I turn toggle switch 1 and 2 on at the same time it does split screen. Witch is nice for the side cameras. I did on-off-on switches for the side cameras so I can still wire them in to work of the turn signals if I decide to. 5Let you back up a car trailer like a PRO! Perfect for my 25' enclosed car trailer. All four cameras on the trailer, one at the very top end of the trailer for backing up, one inside to keep an eye on the car and equipments, two high up front on either side facing the trailer's wheels for backing up and turning.Originally bought this because of all the detailed wiring info provided by other reviewers. I planned to use the "activation wires" to bring certain view on the screen automatically. But seeing the screen in person, I ended up just leaving it to display all four at the same time. The screen is big and clear enough I have no trouble seeing what's going on. The inside camera's night view mode is also quite good, no need to keep lights on.For installation, I added a 10' 13pin DIN extension cable on the trailer side, and a 30' 13pin DIN extension cable on the truck side. They are the generic ones you can get off the "Bay". Works fine but I want to point out these are not shielded or at least not enough shielding that I can see ghosting from other cameras. Now about the seller, eRapta. They earned a solid A in my book. I contacted them before the purchase and their response was prompt. I contacted them during installation regarding a problem I had with the spliter cable (3rd channel wasn't working properly). They overnighted a replacement straight from Hong Kong for free! What more to ask for service! 5Company is willing to work with you if you have a problem Update: The company contacted me by email and said that they have changed to a different type of camera with much better color and they will send me new cameras for free, if you have one of this system with low color contact them they seem more than happy to correct the problem. Once I get the new cameras I will update again. I did receive the new cameras and they work better. much more color. I am now having trouble with the monitor, will update when I get a new monitor. You get what you pay for! For the price it is an ok setup, there is very low color level on the display it is almost black/white. The fish eye lens of the side view cameras distorts the view so it is hard to determine how far a vehicle is back along the side of your vehicle. The one thing that surprised me was that i can't find any information about FCC testing or certification, probably because it generates so much radio frequency noise that my gps can not find any satellites if the monitor is within 4 feet of the gps. If you need a cheap setup this will work but I would recommend you look elsewhere for a better unit. 5The instructions are very minimal. I did exactly as ... The instructions are very minimal. I did exactly as it said and only one camera would display. I couldn't find any info online so I emailed the support number on the brochure. I wasn't sure if I'd get a response but within 45 minutes I did. Their info solved the issue. I even received another email with more detailed instructions that I will share. There seems to be confusion over which wires do what. I have tested them all, so I thought I would share my results. Black is ground and Red is 12V (the specs claim up to 24V, but I only tested at 12V). The confusion comes from the remaining colored leads. Each of them is designed to give a camera "priority" when a signal is fed in through the wire. For example, if you provide a voltage to the brown wire, it will cause camera 4 to go full screen and "turn off" the other cameras. In my testing, I was able to get two cameras to go split screen to display two cameras and ignore the remaining two. This is what I intend to do when I mount the cameras in the back of my car--since the cameras do not have the 170 degree field of vision that others do, I will hook up two cameras at the back of my car and hook their "priority" wires to the backup lights (so I put the car in reverse and both rear facing cameras come up on the screen). So here is which color controls "priority" for which camera:Blue: AV1White: AV2Green: AV3Brown: AV4Since the instructions tell you to connect Red and Brown to hot, this would force AV4 (camera 4) to be on full screen, not allowing the other cameras to connect. 5Great system and great value. Installed the backup cameras on rear of RV (one looking down at hitch and one looking back at TOAD and traffic) and side cameras to help with the dreaded blind spots. Split screen monitor display is great - we tend to have top half with rear looking back (Toad and traffic) and bottom half split to show left and right side cameras (neighboring traffic). Works great. Image is clear and great in low light. Only downside is color is not vibrant per image in ad but that's minor - don't really care if the vehicle in the way is red or blue or green, just need to clearly see it! And great customer service. Have been very responsive to any/all inquiries.Update: still love this system. Have been using it for over 6 months now. We ended up mounting it "upside down" under the TV cabinet over the dash of our RV. This puts it in perfect view of driver so eyes can remain on the road and still see what's on either side as well as who is behind and status of towed vehicle. We have been looking at other RVs and so far like this system & monitor placement far better than any we have seen as most are mounted in the dash and thus require lowering eyes and/or are obscured by steering wheel! Perhaps fine for just backing up but not for improving driving safety. 5Very good setup for the price point I recently installed on this system on my class A. Everything was as described and seems to work very well I haven't had it on a road trip yet but will be soon. I had a problem with the monitor so customer service sent one out immediately. Update just finished and 1800 mile trip the cameras and monitor work great and the best part was instead of mounting the fourth camera up front I mounted it above my rear camera to look beyond my tow vehicle makes it a lot easier to get in and out of traffic 5I was able to easily adapt to use as a quick disconnect setup I was looking for a low cost wired camera setup for my RV trailer that would allow -2- things, multiple cameras and a quick disconnect system at the hitch of my truck. In all my research it seems the second is all but impossible to find. After reading other reviews of this camera and one review in particular where the user said he was able to adapt it to do exactly what I wanted, I figured I would give it a try. I ordered the unit in March and received it in a timely manner. Since the weather is generally lousy in the Northeast that time of year and our first trip out wasn't until May, all I did when I received the unit was bench test it and look it over to see how I could adapt it to my needs. Everything worked well on the bench, so I put that aside. In order to make the quick disconnect work, it actually turned out easier than I expected. There are four coax cables that come from each of the cameras that run up to a single cable. This separate cable is about five feet long. On one end are four connectors for the camera coax cables, 12 volt power and ground for the entire system, and four other wires that can be used if you wanted to force a specific camera to full screen (if you use the left turn signal and you want the left camera to go full screen). On the other end is a thirteen pin connector that plugs in to a short connector on the monitor. That's all there is to the basic wiring. Normally this short cable would be in the vehicle connected directly to the monitor, with the coax cables running from it to the cameras. This really only works for a motorhome type setup in my mind. What I did to make it work as a quick disconnect was this. I ordered a 30 ft 13 pin cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019S238FO/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_12and ran this from the bumper hitch next to the trailer cable connector up to the front of my truck (a crew cab 6.5 ft box pickup) and into the glovebox. This left about five feet of cable in the glovebox to pull out when needed to connect to the monitor.I then took the five foot adaptor cable that came with the camera kit and wire tied it to the trailer connector cable and ran it back to where my batteries are located on the hitch right behind the propane tanks. I took the four coax cables from the cameras, which I mounted one each on the left and right side ahead of the wheels and two on the rear, and attached them to the adapter cable using a generous amount of dielectric grease in each connector to help protect it from the weather. Note here that I had also purchase a couple of shorter pieces of coax cable so that I wouldn't have a lot of extra coiled up in the way. There are numerous sources available on Amazon. The last piece of my setup was to supply power. I purchased a water proof illuminated rocker switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019UM15U2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_11and through a 10a fuse wired it directly to the battery on the trailer. I connected the 12v positive in the harness to the switch and the 12v negative to a ground on the trailer frame and I was all set. Back in the truck there are several ways to mount the camera, I settled on attaching the stand to the back of the camera and using a pair of small bungee cords attaching the stand to my rear view mirror. I pull the cable I need out of the glove box and connect it to the camera. When I hook up my trailer all I do is back up, hook the ball, attach the trailer wire, connect the single push together camera connector, and flip the switch in the hitch to turn on power for the cameras and monitor. When I disconnect it's just the opposite. Don't forget to turn off the power as even without the monitor attached the cameras will still be drawing power! The monitor allows multiple viewing layouts from single camera thru 2, 3, 4 and different combinations of cameras. It also allows you to rotate the view of each camera individually until you have them all aligned as you would like.Unfortunately for me the first time I actually used the camera, I ran into a problem with the monitor where it started blanking out and losing settings.I contacted the seller and described the problem. Keep in mind you are contacting someone in China so there is a 12 hour time difference. They got back to me the next day with a few suggestions for me to try. I did, but they didn't work. I contacted them again and they got right back to me again the next day asking for my shipping information. They were going to send me a new cable because they thought that might be where the problem was. Coming from China it took about a week. I tested the system with the new cable but still had the same problem. I again contacted the vendor and this time they said they would send out a new monitor. I have since received the monitor and tested the system with it. So far it all seems to now work fine. It appears the monitor was defective. Overall I believe I will be pleased with the camera system. The quality of the cameras seem quite acceptable in daylight. I haven't had a chance to try them in the night, but I am hopeful as I had the painful experience of coming home late once last year and trying to back the trailer into my yard in the dark was not something I want to do again. A slightly larger monitor option would have been nice. When you have all four cameras up at once a seven inch screen is tight. A nine or ten inch would be much better, but at this price you can't complain. The initial problems I had with the monitor were unfortunate, but I give the vendor an A++ for customer satisfaction in working with me to get the problem fixed and at no additional cost to me. Finally with the addition of less than $50 in parts I was able to customize the system to do exactly what I wanted and function as a quick disconnect setup. I really have nothing to complain about here.Backup Camera Wired 7 Inch Split Quad Monitor and Camera Kit For Truck/Semi-Trailer/Box Truck/RVTrailer/Bus/Tractor When Reversing Parking Backing to Avoid Blind Area. 5
