Customer Reviews

Don't order these if you have a Toto toiletOur three 10 year old Toto toilets have been leaking water through the flappers (seals are bad) for the past 6-9 months. I purchased three of these band new Fluidmaster flapper replacement kits. The Fluidmaster Flappers did not work at all with our Toto toilets. After three days of non-stop water running/leaking, I ordered three Toto THU500S replacement flappers. These arrived today and I installed them in 5 minutes and all of our toilets work flawlessly. Don't waste your time with anything else. If you own a Toto toilet and having water running or leaking into your bowl, order the Toto brand replacement flapper. I wish I would have the first time; it would have saved me days of aggravation. I am not saying these won't work on other toilets, they just did not work at all for me on our Toto toilets.2Bubbles in the Seal cause Leaking down the Drain - at 1 yr oldYes, I could probably return this. It was super easy to install and adjust in under 5 minutes. It sealed great and worked wonderfully for over 11 months and then it started to leak. I pulled it out and looked at the seal. The seal had two large bubbles. They hadn't been there when I installed it. So I got a box cutter to carefully slit the largest bubble that was about an inch long. Water squirted out. I'm unsure how water infiltrates this seal and causes it to bulge out, especially when it spends most of its time laying flat, pressed against the bottom. It's more likely that the seal split within, bulged as a result, and then sucked the water in. In any case, life is short and I'm going to try another brand. Note: I have very hard city well water and I also use the popular Clorox Automatic Toilet Bowl cleaner to keep the deposits to something I can reasonably clean monthly. Maybe this toilet bowl flapper isn't made to work in such a "demanding" setting?2Not universal... Be advised: this is not a universal fit. Most toilets have a 2" flapper (in which I learned after purchasing this one which is 3"). It would be $6 to return it, so I guess I'm keeping it. Might make a cool teether for my baby. Or maybe I could hang it on the Christmas tree this year. Lesson: always research before buying lol. My mistake, but the product should not be advertised as universal. All this, but I'm sure the flapper works great, on the rare toilet that needs a 3" flapper... 3Not universal in the leastThis product should not be allowed to advertise itself as universal. I have an American Standard toilet, which is one of the brands mentioned on the front of the packaging, and this was nowhere near the correct size to fit my toilet. It's obvious that this product was made to fit very specific models of toilets, so the label of "Universal" is just a buzz word they are using to try to get people make a purchase without doing more research.Long story short, do your research to find the correct flapper for your toilet rather than one that incorrectly labels itself as universal.1Seal retaining water then leaksBubbled just like the last one. I am down to just releasing the trapped water with a pin. So far it has worked. If yours leaks remove it and look for bubbles if you see some poke them with a pin and squeeze the water out. Don't replace because it will happen again.1Fits American Standard but will fail in the futureThis is the one that fits most newer American Standard toilets--don't look for it at Lowe's or Home Depot, you won't find it. I own at least a half dozen toilets that use this flapper--the bad news is that it WILL fail (at least with the public water in Salem, OH). They seem to last about three years then the flexible seal develops bubbles which cause it to not seal well. No, you can't just buy the seal, you have to buy the whole thing. It works but definitely is not up to my expectations for Fluidmaster products.4Exactly what I needed This is a great bargain. I used it to replace an old one that deteriorated due to my use of a bleach tablet. I believe bleach tablets will ruin these after some time, so I am looking for an alternative to those. However, this seems like a great deal for the money. 5easy to installI had a plumber fix my running toilet 2 years in a row and it started running again. With a little patience, I was able to determine it was the flap. I looked for a replacement for the model I had and discovered that the flap in my toilet had terrible reviews (my plumber probably knew I would be a customer for life with the garbage he was installing). I purchased this replacement part and installed it in under 2 min. it works as promised - my toilet is not running and, from what I can see from other reviews I expect it will keep my plumber away for along time! :-)5Worked on an American Standard for about a month, then kaputFirst the chain broke. Twice. Then it refused to seat and would leak enough so the toilet would run and run. After trying to fix it a dozen times, my neighbor the plumber looked at it. He showed us that the bulb connected to it would collect air and cause it to float (%$#@!) Why they would put that thing on a flapper is beyond me. We took the bulb off, and it worked for another two months. Then it again wouldn't seat. Neighbor again looked at it and noticed that because the two lever-type attachments were spaced so far apart, it could move side to side over an inch, causing it not to seat. I threw it out and bought an American Standard replacement at a hardware store (which was not available on Amazon). Works fine now.2easily replaced old flapper, well designed I really like the design. When I bought it, I didn't notice the black plastic tub that covers the chain and blocks it, so it doesn't prevent the rubber seal. It's a simple and cheap improvement that really helps save water and my time. The hard plastic arms will probably work far better than the rubber arms that slowly disintegrated on my old flapper, which is the reason it had to be replaced. The chain was easy to adjust.I would probably buy it again, depending on how well this one does. 5Toilet is now easy to flushDescription on Amazon is not clear, so I will correct:A. Its redB. Its open time is adjustableC. Its clip width is also adjustableMoved into a house. One of the toilets had a handle hard to flush, and the flapper wouldnt hold open long enough to get a "good" flush. Had that "clunk" sound.Got this in mail, moved clip width to max, futzed with the adjustable open time (dont know what number, I did it blind until I was happy). Toilet is now easy to flush, and flapper remains open long enough for a good flush while not remaining open too long. Bonus is it will last a very long time.I am happy.5Gasket failure after 2 years of useAround year 2 of use, I noticed the toilet was running occasionally to top-up the tank. Upon inspection of the flapper s gasket, I noticed multiple air bubbles had formed around its edges, compromising its ability to seal. I use no chemicals in the tank this has only interacted with city water. Definitely not fulfilling its 10-year warranty. This is the second time this has happened.1Great ReplacementI recently replaced two of my toilets. I have very hard well water and even though I have a softener, the tank still can get a brown stain around it. So I use Clorox bleach tablets. After about 2-3 months, the original flapper values in both toilets fail, the cheap rubber seal started to deform, due to the bleach tablets. Going to this value with a silicone seal solves the problem, since silicone is resistant to bleach water. It's also very easy to adjust for the amount of water you want in your bowl. Just an all around great product!5
