Customer Reviews

Great plate BUT....... The plate itself is fantastic and the placement of the mounting hole slots are spot on. My issue with it is the build quality of the screws and the center 2-way screw. The 2 sliding screws have flip out twist handles used to tighten and untighten the screw from the camera or what ever you are going to screw it onto. For me, I am using it for my DSLR and as I was going to screw one of the screws into the tripod mount hole of my camera, the twist handles snapped as I was flipping it out, not even screwing it in yet! The other screw worked fine BUT it was just a little too long, maybe about 1 mm, and as I finished screwing into my camera, it's not tight onto the plate. I'm gonna file it down just a bit to make it work. Now I need to purchase another set of screws for the plate. Now the center 2-way screw is loosley fitting into the 3/8" tripod mount hole, When i tighten that onto my tripod it works w ok, but when using the 3/8" to 1/4" adapter onto my camera, there is not enough "threading meat" on the plate to properly and securely attach the DSLR to. I recommend the plate, but the hardware for the plate is VERY questionable and poorly manufactured. 3200mm Lens Plate - Someone will eventually have to make a good cheap one of these. It's a piece of milled aluminum, why can no one get this right for less than $40? The technological challenges are zero and it doesn't even need to be particularly precisely made. If you go to a place/website like BH they have plates that start to approach the price of prime lenses. That being said, the market is what it is, and with a lack of better options at this price point this is an OK product. The Good - I love the versatility length of the 200mm plate. You can use it to attach two cameras (or any other pieces of gear) to a single tripod since it comes with two 1/4" screws. - You can also use the length to make a pseudo video tripod. Just attach it so that almost the whole length sticks out behind the camera and you've turned a photo tripod head into a cheap video head. I ve attached a picture showing this - You can balance almost any telephoto lens plus camera setup without a tripod collar. I ve attached a picture of this too. - I like the tabs on the screws which mean you can tighten them without tools. The Bad - The furthest screw slots are unusable because the screw heads hit a piece of the plate and can't be tightened. I ve tried to show this in one of my pictures. - The plate came with few dings and dents. This does not bode well for the overall construction quality. - The rubber pads are not of high quality. They are more of a hard plastic than the grippy stuff found on higher quality plates. - The screws are very loosely held into the plate when not attached to a piece of equipment. Honestly, you have to be a bit careful that they don't fall out while you are carrying it around. In conclusion, I'm disappointed with the quality of this piece of equipment but I'm not aware of a better alternative. It functions well enough and is a cheap and versatile tool.Photos taken of the 200mm lens plate and a Cannon Rebel SL1. 3Sort of Arca Swiss, sort of not :-) The 40mm size is great for a GH5 - however, be warned that this (and all Fotasy plates I've tried) do NOT fit many 'Arca Swiss' products that are available on Amazon. Buyer beware! There are many factors that prevent 'Arca Swiss' products working with each other. In this case, the protuding pins at the bottom of this plate (the 40mm one) prevent it working with many brands. Also, the little 'wing' type things underneath don't seem to be the 'standard' size.If you have a bunch of pro equipment, just don't expect this to work with other things labelled 'Arca Swiss'. :-) 2The one I recieved was NOT Acra compatable, not even close! If you need capatability look elsewhere. But it does work on its own This was listed as an "Acra" plate and clamp. Well, if it is...it doesn't fit any other Acra plate or clamp I have. Its just the wrong size. At the time I got it I should have just returned it. While the price is attractive the plain truth is it works only with itself, not any other Acra-Swiss plates or clamps I have.Taken on its own its OK for what it cost. There are, however, other options out there at a similar price point that are actually compatible with the Acra-Swiss standard. If you just plan on using this on its own its OK. If you plan on it working with other Acra mounts or plates you have, I would certainly look elsewhere.I should have returned it but was just busy at the time and forgot about it as it wasn't compatible with my other gear. Lucky for me it wasn't too expensive. 2Great price for a great plate Review of LP70 Lens Plate: I purchased two of these plates. Nicely finished black plates and the lens cloth is a nice bonus. The plate is virtually the same size as the foot on Canon's 70-200 tripod ring, and a bit longer than the foot on their 300mm telephoto. The slightly raised rubber (silicone?) pads do an excellent job of holding their grip on the tripod rings. If you so choose, the supplied 2 pins can be removed with a 5mm hex key - I keep both pins in place on all my plates. I happen to use a Sunwayfoto screw type AS clamp on my tripod and the LP70 plate works excellent for me on these 2 lenses. I use a Breakthrough Technology AS compatible plate on my camera body for use with shorter lenses and find that although both size plates are billed as AS compatible, there is a subtle difference between the two manufacturers. One requires an additional 1/4 turn than the other in order to release the full width of the plates (when 2 pins are used the plates will not slide out in either direction when the clamp is loose). Indicates to me that I might not be able to use my current mix of AS compatible plates if I was using a lever type release clamp and wanted to stick with 2 pins on the plates. 5Why they didn't use a slotted d-ring like pretty much every other plate in the world I'll ... This thing is TINY! Wanted to add an arca plate to my DJI Osmo Mobile and this fit the bill. Wanted it to be as small as possible. Though I wouldn't buy it again and here's why. It's so small that the two retention bolt heads(the anti-slide ones) must be removed to fit in most arca clamps. They're so close together that one or the other will be sitting on top of the clamp screw when inserted. Might not be a problem on one of those little fishbone style clamps, but most others will be a challenge. Furthermore, I'm not really a fan of the fact they used an allen head screw in the middle. Why they didn't use a slotted d-ring like pretty much every other plate in the world I'll never know.It feels well-built otherwise, really a hard product to screw up. 3Excellent item, needs modding to fit Dolica TX570 Ultra Compact Tripod. I ordered this along with the Dolica TX570 Ultra Compact Tripod because I didn't see any Dolica branded release plates and I wanted to have a second one on hand for quick swaps. I thought the TX570 had an arca-swiss compatible quick-release so that this would work. I was almost right. This plate popped into the ball-head on the TX570 without a hitch. However, it wouldn't come off. There is a spring-loaded safety release pin in the Dolica head that keeps the plate from sliding out accidentally to the side - but with this EzPhoto plate, it also kept it from coming out upwards. Examining the underside, I saw that the Dolica plate had a sloped shoulder underneath that would slide over the spring-loaded safety release pin. The EzPhoto had a square shoulder that kept it from doing so. I really liked the nice construction of the EzPhoto plate, so I used a small grinding tool with a coarse grit sanding drum to bevel down that square shoulder so the EzPhoto would fit my Dolica. Now all is happy in photo-land. 5... I have come to the realization that fotasy plates suck. They suck because they are NOT designed to ... After getting the 25mm plate I have come to the realization that fotasy plates suck. They suck because they are NOT designed to fit all arca receivers like my Desmond, Kessler, or Utebit plates are. They are ONLY designed to fit other Fotasy arca receivers. I've tried this and other Fotasy plates and it's the same results with all of them. Same thing with the Neewer plates they don't fit all receivers either. That said the plate is nicely constructed and I LOVE how it has the "slide locks" that prevent the plates from sliding off the arca receiver when adjusting position. HOWEVER, THAT is where this plate fails. Because it so thin (25mm) the slide locks DO NOT FIT on any receiver correctly. It pushes the plate up because the slide locks are too close together. I wanted a nice thin plate like my peak Design plates but that had the slide locks as the peak Design plates to have the slide locks. Now I know it's impossible to get proper universal slide locks with a 25mm plate it's simply not wide enough. So I would say sick with 40mm at the thinnest if you want a thin plate that can still use the slide locks. 25mm is just too short. And I'm sure it fits the Fotasy receiver it was designed for but it won't fit properly in any other receiver (especially my Kessler Kwik release. 2Low quality and sticky rubber pads I know the price is low and you get what you pay for, but I'm still very disappointed in it. The metal part of the plate is OK--I haven't used it long enough to destroy it. But the rubber pads became sticky quickly, leaving black residuals on my white lens after keeping it on for a while. I was able to clean off the black stuff on one of my lenses, but it permanently stained my other lens. For a few more dollars, you can get the Breakthrough Photography QR plate that doesn't have this problem. One thing I noticed after I went through 5 brands of QR plates from Amazon: If the rubber pad has a "concave" pattern (lines crisscross), it will almost for sure become sticky and leave residuals. If the patterns are "convex" with many tiny pyramids (e.g. SunwayFoto and Breakthrough Photography), the pads are resistant to this problem. --Unfortunately, the picture of this product is misleading (at least in my case): I bought it because of the convex pattern as shown in the pic, but what I received was the same concave pattern that quickly became sticky. 2Does not fit Arca-Swiss clamps. Waste of time and money. I own two Arca-Swiss adapters. This plate does not fit either one, nor likely any other one on the market. The reason is the two silver colored rivets on the bottom. They should have been recessed but since they are not ,they will not slide into one adapter or clamp into the other one. It's really a shame, I wanted one that is as narrow as this one to fit my small mirrorless camera in a way that would still give me access to the battery and SD card.It really ought to be easier to design and mill some aluminum to the right size, and if someone finds a solution to this problem, please ping me. 1
