The Ultrium tape format is the implementation of the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology that is designed to provide high capacity and performance with exceptional reliability in either a stand-alone or an automated environment. It uses a single-reel cartridge and is ideally suited for large volume backup, restore, and archive applications. Each IBM LTO 6 cartridge features 2.5TB of native storage capacity, or 6.25TB of capacity when compressed. LTO 6 also boast higher transfer speeds of up to 400MB/s (compressed, 160MB/s native).
