Customer Reviews

Got a defective card. Make sure you test the card! I got a defective card. The quick format was fine, initial tests of about 500 high speed (10 frames/sec) shots wrote without any problems. It's been years since I got defective media, so I didn't bother to do more testing.About two weeks and 6000 shots later, the camera buffer started filling up and frames/sec slowing down, which never happens. Then the camera failed to write to the card.At home, I copied off the data that I could, and then tried to run a full format. I tried a few times but the Full Format always failed. Quick Format works fine, as it only overwrites the file table, but doesn't check the integrity of the data space. When I tried to fill the drive with data after a Quick Format, I again got write errors. If you decide to try the card, make sure you run a FULL FORMAT. I didn't see ANY problems at first, not for the first 40GB of photos. Luckily I discovered the problem in a few weeks, not months later, whem I might not have been able to get a refund.I really should have run a full format and checked the card, it's just been so long since I've gotten a bad one and got lazy. 1Works well for Magic Lantern RAW video on 5D Mark III I bought this to do RAW video recording using Magic Lantern on the Canon 5D Mark III. It doesn't benchmark as high as some of the other 1000x cards, but it handles the RAW video fine. I can record up to 1920x1152 without dropped frames on a May 30th build of Magic Lantern. Aligning the partition on the card did boost the benchmarks a bit, but it didn't translate to being able record any higher resolution video. For stills, in burst mode, I get about 24 frames before the buffer runs out and the shutter slows down. The Transcend 400x I replaced hit about 14 frames before slowing. So far no quality issues and the price is fantastic compared to the more recognizable brands. 4I use this for Magic Lantern RAW recording. Works GREAT Don't believe what any other haters may say. This is the cheapest card available, and it will shoot RAW video. I've only used it on the 5D MK3 and can vouch for it 100%. Would purchase again. Shooting in 1080p yields about 12 minutes until the card is full. I also have the 32GB card which only holds about 6 minutes, and I would recommend buying the 64GB over 32GB if you're just testing the waters because you will wish you had more recording time. One piece of advice for RAW recording enthusiasts, format your 1000x cards in ExFat, or else any files larger than 4 gigs will be split and personally it's annoying. This means you can't format in camera, but that's not the card's fault.Get this card. 5Crashed During A Client Shoot, Unrecoverable files I got through half of a day worth of shooting for a big client, when all of sudden this card crashed right in the middle of an interview. I could not get the camera to read it so I had to put it away and proceed to use a different card. Later that night after the shoot I tried to transfer the footage and it kept freezing and or crashing my iMac. I cannot even begin to tell you how frustrating this was. After several hours of trying multiple card recovering tools with zero luck I finally took one last shot in my Windows Bootcamp partition. My friend mentioned that Windows handled messed up cards better the Apple. He was right. I was able to pull the footage off the card onto a USB drive. Very lucky. Very frustrating. I would never trust one of these again. I still am unable to get any use out of it as I have tried reformatting with no luck. Only crashes my op system. $130 down the drain, because I didn't try to use it until a few weeks after purchasing it. By then it was too late to return or exchange. 1Not for fast shooting I was very excited to get this, specially the price vs GB was very appealing. I own a 5D mark III and bought this card for action shots, it either freezes on me or won't save any files. After a day of shooting I tried to download and all I got was BLACK! very frustrating gave it a couple more tries and the same thing kept happening, either freezing, black images or it asking me to remove and re-insert the card, and even format the card every couple tries. When I contacted the seller they wanted to know EVERYTHING from what camera I owned to my computer (which is a macbook pro I got a couple months ago). Bottom line, VERY hard to get the problem sorted, and at this point I will just throw it away . because in order for me to get this sorted is just a bigger hassle!!! 1Failed after a few uses I've only used the card a few times, in fact I was getting ready to reformat it for the first time after unloading all of the files. It initially started giving me errors where I could not read a few RAW files (5D MKIII) when importing to Lightroom. This was concerning. Then upon putting back in the camera it could not recognize or format it. I'm using a Kingston FCR-HS3 USB 3.0 Reader, which is recommended and has been excellent with all other cards.I really wanted to like this card since it is an affordable alternative to the high priced options. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad memory card, and I use both CF and SD. I have a few each of Transcend, SanDisk, a Duracell, and a Lexar. I even have an old Blue Generic 8GB card that is now about 5 years old. None have given me a single problem. I am an amateur photographer so I don't earn a living at it, but if I did I would be highly skeptical of using a Komputer Bay Card. I will try to get a replacement, but I'm not sure I can trust them now.Update: Replacement is on it's way after trying to fix it with low level formatting. 1Hasn't failed me yet! Great buy! At first I was a bit skeptical about purchasing a CF card from a relatively unknown manufacturer, especially since I do professional photography, and I would hate to lose photos to corruption. While my Lexar Professional series and Sandisk Extreme cards have failed, this one hasn't. Still, I set my camera to backup to an additional card, but so far, this is my only card not to have failed me. Its high speed is suitable for full HD video recording and keeps up well shooting 36MP RAW files with my D800, and it transfers to my computer quickly using a USB 3.0 card reader. It's a great buy, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive alternate to some name brand cards, especially if your camera has dual card slots for backup (Just in case - I never trust a single card, no matter the brand. I can just imagine losing all of someone's wedding photos because of data corruption). 5Works well for 5d3 raw video Initial testing with a net sourced write speed program indicated 1 of the 2 cards I ordered wasn't fast enough for raw video using magic lantern. In camera ML write speed test indicated the same. Actual raw video testing, both card worked fine, filling with no stoppage or errors. The indicated fps rate was approximately the same for both cards, in the low to mid 80 fps range. Both Komputerbay 64gb cards I purchased work for 1980 x 1080p @ 25fps ML raw video.----Won't do 30fps at that res - or sound.Had 1 instance of dropped frames.Aligned partitions on cards in hopes of avoiding that in future.Happy with cards. And price of cards. 4Its hard to give a star rating because each card varies, some are 5 and some ar 1, so I went with a 3 I'm using it with ML Raw on my 5D MK3. The ones that work work very well, actually better than other more "reputable" cards even. The price is great but the issue is that some cards are not up to par with the ones that do work. I have had cards with pink lines and dots and some that drop frames and other that work perfectly. I say order them and send back the ones with issues, that is if you have time to thoroughly test them first! I wouldn't just stock up on these and expect to go shoot one card after another and have no issues when you check your raw footage, you need to test each card thoroughly before using. 3Corrupted on me! I bought my first KomputerBay card back at the beginning of the month. I was somewhat hesitant at first because I've read about some people having issues; like it was a toss up if one would receive a good card or not. I decided to then give this card a try, seeing how it's half the price of Lexar's version and that I'm on a tight budget.I needed a 1000x card because I'm shooting on a Canon 5D Mark III with Magic Lantern. My plan is to shoot at least 1920x1080 raw continuously and slowly work up to 2.5K.When I first received the card, I ran some benchmark tests and did some test shots. Everything ran smoothly. On my first gig (photography event) with this card, I decided to shoot regular 1080p h.264 format because I knew the event will go on for hours and shooting raw would eat up too much space. Anyway, within the first 15minutes of shooting, my camera displayed an error message and the LCD showed there's no memory card in slot 1 (CF). I shut my camera off and removed the battery for a bit. I tried recording again, but I would get same messages within a few seconds.Luckily for me, my SD card is 64gb and I quickly switch to that and put the Komputerbay away. Later on, I tried to retrieve the footage I shot on the Komputerbay card, but I couldn't copy, drag, cut, nor move any of the files. I couldn't even format the card on my computer nor on my camera; basically I couldn't do anything. I was fortunate that the card became corrupted at the beginning of my gig and not during the middle or the end.I've since returned the card.... and bought another. I shot a quick fashion video last week (raw video at 60fps) and thus far it's working fine. I will change my rating once I shot enough on the card.***Edit 04/06/14***It's been nearly 8 months since the corrupted KB card occurred. So far I have three Komputerbay 1000x 64gb and they have been working flawlessly. I do highly recommend these cards over their more expensive counterparts. I've used these cards extensively (1920x1080 raw and regular h.264) and there haven't been any hiccups. I do advise anyone who purchases these cards, or any other cards for that matter, to stress & bench test the cards prior to using them professionally. 5
