Customer Reviews

BUY THESE!! short and sweet review...I had some gen1 powerline devices, 1 in my office and 1 in the closet upstairs where all my telco equipment and camera NVR is located. I could get (if lucky) around 6-7Mbps and averaged around 3-4Mbps, barely enough for a webex. So, figuring newer technology might come save the day, I purchased 2 of these devices. Now, I am getting 60Mbps average with peaks to 70Mbps. So, in short, they work and are awesome. I have no complaints as of yet. If these die on day 366 and I am out of warranty, I may return to amend this review, but until then..AWESOME! Buying 2 more for the TV's in the house where I am not getting the wireless bandwidth I need to stream 1080p without buffering issues. 5Works better than you would expect I rent a home and did not want to pay for a data line to be run from my office to my den. In my den I have a stereo receiver, blu ray that do not offer wifi but do offer networking. I also have a media server in my office for all my music. After sizing up products like these vs a range extender, I made the decision to purchase these units, which are the newest version.I have wireless throughout the house and I moved my laptop to my den.I did a speed test through the wireless connection first. Then I hooked these guys up.Could not have been easier.Plug one in and connect to your modem/routerThen plug the other in and connect it to a switch or to whatever. Press the buttons to make sure they connect.I then did a speed test of the laptop hardwired to this unit and with the wireless adapter turned offGuess what? To my surprise the speed was exactly the same!! And this is an old house with older 1970's wiring.I ended up plugging this one into a switch which I then split off to my stereo receiver and blu rayNow I can enjoy my media server..finally! I can download firmware updates or stream netflix.Buy this product if you do not want to spend the money on a drop. It's worth it 5Great Little Problem Solver I live in a house the has many 14" thick rock walls and Wifi signals don't like solid rock. The house would be very difficult to run Cat 5 cable without looking bad. I had tried some Wifi repeaters at different parts of the house which worked, but very poorly. I had to constantly reset the repeaters, most of the time having to hook them up to a computer to perform the reset. Finally I got fed up with the constant problems including poor throughput and bought the PLEK500's after reading the reviews online. My setup is a fiber-optic cable to the house into a Cisco router/switch with 8 Cat 5 ports, then out to the PLEK500. At the other end I have the PLEK500, which is on a different circuit in the house than the sending unit (I know that's not ideal, but that's life in the real world). I connected the PLEK500 to a small Cisco E900 Wifi router with 4 Cat 5 plugs and then from those plugs to my TV, game system, and AV receiver. I tried this setup out for a month to see if I would have any problems and after it worked flawlessly I ordered another set so that I could have this setup in 2 rooms and stream to both TVs at the same time. The setup works great and now I also have a very strong wifi signal throughout the house. 5Working fine in less than ideal circumstances I chose the PLEK500 over some less expensive but also highly rated options because of its AV2 support. I wanted AV2 even though I have modest networking requirements in my home because the reliability of previous generations of powerline networking gear and the hassle of hardwiring have kept me from putting together my home network the way I want it.I wasn't sure if the PLE500's would work for me because the wisdom of the Internet says that powerline transceivers will either have degraded performance or be destroyed if they are used on a GFCI/AFCI circuit. I have mostly 1940's wiring in my home. Original receptacles are 2-wire, and some receptacles had a ground wire added. In 2010, I added some GFCI receptacles and AFCI circuits. I installed one PLE500 on an ordinary receptacle that shares a circuit with 2 GFCI receptacles. I installed the other PLE500 on a dedicated AFCI circuit (the circuit serves only one receptacle). The performance has been nearly flawless. Electrical noise from the furnace firing, microwave oven, computer power supplies, dimmer switches, dimmable CFLs, and dimmable LEDs seems to have no effect on the PLE500's. However, I now have a problem with a halogen lamp on a GFCI receptacle causing an AFCI circuit to trip. Odd...I'll replace the halogen lamp and get an electrician to troubleshoot the wiring.I considered taking away a star because, while the PLE500 is small, it takes up a little more than it's share of space on a duplex receptacle. I put one on an extension cord because it didn't fit on the receptacle with my UPS's plug. The other PLE500 interferes with my cable modem's transformer, which I can no longer plug all the way in. On the other hand, now that I can put my WiFi router in a better spot, I can get reliable and fast WiFi coverage almost anywhere in the house without using a WiFi extender, and it's easy to temporarily relocate the router elsewhere, even outdoors on a 100-foot extension cord. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase. 5Works Great! I have a two story house with my wireless router upstairs and several pieces of wireless equipment downstairs. I was able to stream things wirelessly, but was only getting about 1.6 MB's per second, which isn't very good. Decided to buy the AV2 Powerline kit to see if it would help to increase the speed of my network. The kit worked Immediately as soon as I plugged both ends in to the power sockets. There was no setup. Just plug and play. I was worried b/c the kit says that the power lines should be on the same breaker to work well. I took a chance and plugged them in even though they aren't on the same breaker (One is on an upstairs bedroom breaker and the other is on the living room breaker). Immediately after hooking up the power line kit I connected it to a router downstairs, which I turned into a switch. I then plugged in my PS3, XBOX360, TV, and COMPUTER, tuned some settings on my router and bam, I had a wired network running downstairs as well. I ran a speed test to verify. Upstairs I was receiving the 30 MB down (all I need for the things I do on the internet) and 5 MB's up. Downstairs I was receiving 28 MB's down and 5 MBs up. A little degradation, but not much. I also use my downstairs router as a wireless extender for all the other wireless equipment in the house which includes Kindle's, phones, and tablets. This kit definitely works as advertised. The only downside to it is that it takes a power outlet out of the loop, which for me required using an extra power strip connected to another power strip. I know it's not the preferred method, but you have to do what you have to do.Just to add on, the speed tests I conducted were INTERNET speed tests, not LOCAL NETWORK speed tests. When on just the local network streaming from my NAS device, I'm running GIGABIT speeds, which is exactly what this unit is supposed to do, so no degradation for the local network. 5Wow, It works great for us. Wow, I am really surprised how well this works and fast it is. Set it up in about five minutes or less. My two units are not on the same AC circuit and it works flawless. My router is in the basement and I put the first unit down there and my second unit is in the back bedroom. Totally separate AC circuits and it works so well I am in shock. I had tried several other products that did not work well at all. Now I have a way to get high speed internet to my workshop without running a new wire. I know some others have had issues with it not being on same AC circuit but I do not. I am a contractor and I know which circuits are where in my house. All I can say is it does exactly what it says and there is no drop in speed. Thanks Linksys so much. 5Worked better than expected I have used PoE units before and was never really happy with their performance. They work in the sense that you have a connection but that s about as good as it gets. I recently moved into a new home that is roughly 3200 sqft and the cable (internet) line comes into a panel in the master closet. I work from home and the room I chose to be my office was on the complete other side of the home. The wireless signal just wasn t strong enough to reach. Next I got a quote to run Cat6 from the master closet to the office. The cost was insane and I didn t want to spend that amount of money. I read the review on the PLEK500 and for $100, I thought I would give a try.I am currently paying for cable internet speed of 55 down/5 up. I took my laptop and plugged in directly into the router and did a speed test. I consistently got what I was paying for 55/5. I pulled one unit into an outlet in the closet and the other in the office (other side of the house). The 2 units got green lights so they were talking to each other. Plugged my laptop into the PLEK500 in the office and ran a speed test. I was pleasantly surprised when I was getting about 45/5 on average. Sometimes it would dip to 30/5 but also max out at 55/5. Much better than the wireless signal which would net me about 2.5/1 on a good day.Very happy with the purchase. I plan on pick up more of these so I can have Ethernet access in all the bedrooms. 5Great product and extremely easy to setup. I used this product to provide a direct Internet connection to my Roku box. My router and cable connection is upstairs and my television/Roku is downstairs, and I didn't want to go through the hassle of running CAT5 cables through the walls. An additional part of my setup included two, very short, 3-prong extensions, found on Amazon (search for StarTech.com PAC101 12in Power Cord Extension - NEMA 5-15R to NEMA 5-15P), to avoid sacrificing a power slot on the wall. From what I understand, you can't plug the PowerLine devices into power strips. It must have a direct connection to the outlet. However, the aforementioned power cables work fine with it as long as it has a direct connection (read this on a comment somewhere for another product's review). The package includes two devices, one for each connection point, and two LAN (Ethernet) cables. The installation is really simple. To do so, plug the first PowerLine device into the wall, then connect the included LAN cable from the router to the device. From there, plug the second device into the wall nearest to the location that needs the Internet connection, then use the second LAN cable to connect the other device to your hardware that needs the data connection. It's really that simple.I've heard some folks complain about other devices where this type of connection only works for short distances, but this was NOT the case for me. It works perfectly. 5I was having problems with my wifi with an extender getting enough bandwidth to my Vizio smart TV and PS4 located downstairs and Bought my first pair and then a week later I purchased a second set. I was having problems with my wifi with an extender getting enough bandwidth to my Vizio smart TV and PS4 located downstairs and on the far end of the house from where my Time Warner Roadrunner (allegedly up to 300 mbs) cable modem/wireless router. We were especially having problems with online gaming (Madden 16) as it was lagging terrible and made the game pretty much unplayable in the online mode. While I'm not sure of the quantitative improvement, I can tell you that my problems are solved and my games and online video streaming are now "snappy" quick. Its a 100% improvement over my wifi only setup. So far so good!!! 5US Homeplug that works in Germany Pros:I bought these because I recently moved to Germany and moved into a 4 story home with poor Wifi coverage. I wanted to buy US spec Homeplug adapter so that I could still use them when I move back to the US in a couple years. Luckily, because Homeplugs in general will analyze your electrical grid and adapt its environment, these devices were able to work in Germany, using German 220-volt plugs, using a simple plug adapter. My house is very old and actually has 3 breaker boxes in the house. These Homeplugs are able to communicate across these three breaker boxes to give me a solid connection around the house. I have one plugged in on the first floor next to my router and the other one is on the top floor which connect to a second router that is running in "Access Point" mode so I can extend my Wifi to the top floor.Cisco's Powerline utility says they are connected at speeds of 36mb transmit and 26mb receive. I know that seems low, but considering the age of the house and having 3 breaker boxes, I am happy. And it is faster than my actual internet connection, so no lost speed there.THOUGHTS:If you need a wired connection anywhere in your home because of limited Wifi, these will do the trick just fine. Just remember, depending on your home's electrical wiring, your mileage will vary. 5
