Customer Reviews

Second time trying Lux.. never again I wanted to replace a perfectly good thermostat made by another major company because I wanted a full 7 day programable one. I first tried a different LUX mode and had issues with it not celebrating correctly (i.e. the temperature was never what it said it was) and after it would detect the set temperature it would continue to run the fan and blow cold air until decreased the temperature a degree or two below the set rate. I returned that model and thought I would try this model which is cheaper.I do have a high efficiency furnace but just need a basic thermostat since the different stages of the high efficiency model is run by the furnace and not thermostat. This model acted the same way. It never celebrated to the correct temperature, it never ran the blower correctly since my upstairs was always much colder (a problem I never had with the other model) and it would continue to blow cold fan air after going one degree above the set temperature. I don't know what it is about the Lux models, but they simply do not work. They certainly don't work for the high efficiency furnaces and these furnaces do not require any special thermostat. Never again.. going back the other manufacture. 2It worked GREAT - for a few weeks I replaced an old thermostat that had a huge range problem - turning heat on once it was 2 degrees below the setting and baking everyone by waiting until 2 degrees above the setting before turning off. This thermostat was excellent in only swinging 1/2 degree, 1/4 below and 1/4 above. Sadly that only lasted a few weeks and now it's gone off. I have the "hold" set to 67 degrees and last night I had to manually turn the heat off after it got HOT in here... 72 degrees for me is HOT! Now it refuses to work within the 1/2 degree swing no matter how often I reset the thing. And, yes, I've replaced the batteries - TWICE!It was an excellent thermostat but simply did not last long enough which is rather sad.Wish I could report differently. 1I really like Lux thermostats and am starting to prefer them over Honeywell I really like Lux thermostats and am starting to prefer them over Honeywell, which were my go to thermostats for many years. Both brands are reliable and have accurate thermometers. I like the Lux because it is silent; there's no loud "click" when turning on and off like the Honeywells. Also the Lux has a configurable "swing" value. This lets you adjust how far the temperature is allowed to drift before kicking on the furnance or air conditioner. I use this feature to reduce the frequent cycling on/off that my old thermostat used to do. 5Easy two wire installation in my case Easy two wire installation in my case. My needs are basic for now, so spending a lot wasn't desirable. Looks pretty good on the wall as well. 5Great item at a good price Nice item with lots of features and options. I bought it mainly for the adjustable differential feature. Our gas furnace was cycling on and off too frequently and burned out the gas igniter way too soon. Now it cycles about half as often with the differential set at "5" which is +/- 1.25 degrees. Display is large and back lit for easy night viewing. Controls are all on the front and easy to set and use. Programming is simple and easy with separate programs for heating and cooling. You can even calibrate the temperature sensor if you need to. It has everything I want - I love it. 5Great programmable thermostat for the price Super programmable thermostat. I have another older thermostat running my gas furnace and use this in tandem for an outdoor boiler hooked into the forced air system. My old thermostat and this one differed by about a half degree and the tolerance of the older thermostat made it unpredictable which heat source would kick in first. Not only is this thermostat fully programmable, and easily copies from one day to the next, but all of the calibrations can be programmed as well. I adjusted the temperature reading by the half a degree difference and set the offset so this thermostat maintained the temperature within a half a degree. Amazing thermostat for the price. Good for a standard setup, but this will not work for every situation and will not control line voltage electrical systems. If you have a standard forced-air heating/cooling system, this is a great little product. It is battery operated, so remember to routinely change the AA batteries in the unit. 5POS!!! Failed TWO days after return period ended! When it works it's fine. I purchased this as an upgrade thermostat for a shop furnace. This morning I walked into the shop. and noticed it was pretty chilly. Checked the thermostat, and it was flashing "low batt". A month in use, and the batteries are dead already?? Changed batteries, reset the thermostat and it appeared to be working, but still not call for heat. After troubleshooting I found that there was no current going to the terminals for the thermostat wires. Obviously internal failure. Return period ended two days ago, so no it's hassling with the manufacturer over a $20 thermostat...... not worth it. Steer clear of this thermostat......POS!! UPDATE: No way to contact the company, as the phone number posted on the item is disconnected, and the webpage is unresponsive (none of the links work) 1This thing is so inexpensive, I think it's going to pay for itself within a month! This is perhaps the least expensive thermostat on Amazon, but has the same feature set as the much more expensive models. At first I was concerned about the "control" wire problem, but on this model, the control wire is an optional supplement to the batteries; if you don't have one, then you have nothing to worry about, but if you do have one, then you can replace the batteries less frequently as the extra wire supplies power. I love the nintendo-cheat-code-like control lockout; although it wouldn't take someone long to google the sequence, it's obscure enough to keep someone from casually adjusting the temperature. Furthermore, you can set in the programming a minimum and maximum adjustable temperature; so even if you don't lockout the controls, you can set the unit so that 75 degrees is the minimum temperature. 5Great features, great price. As advertised, setup was fast and easy. I've installed a few thermostats in the past, so I had a leg up, regardless, I really like this one. Everything works as it should, but I really appreciate the settings menu. I have never had a thermostat with this menu before, and I love it. You can change between 2 or 4 temp changes a day, and between a 5/2 program, or a full 7 day program. My favorite feature though, is the ability to set the temperature sway, meaning I can cut my cooling costs even further by setting the system to allow for a full degree (actually up to 2.25 degrees, but I use 1) of temperature rise before the system kicks on again. I live in a hot climate, and the electricity bills during the summer are insane. I'll take it where I can get it, and this Lux thermostat delivers at an easy-to-swallow price. 5Easy installation if you've never switched out a thermostat before Its really worth trying to do it yourself, this model is fairly basic which won't overwhelm you with possibilities, everythings included in the box so all you'll need is a couple of screwdrivers and some patience for problem solving. It's really doubtful that you'll short circuit the entire house, burn out all your appliances and burn the house down. My one criticism with the included instructions is the lack of information about the C wire. I diagram for instruction manuals and having a diagram with a wire attached to a C terminal Which doesn't exist gets really confusing. When I googled the issue it was the most common misunderstanding of all brands. As much as everyone hates reading directions I really recommend spending a little time familiarising yourself with settings, the layout isn't very intuitive so you'll just be pushing buttons all day long. All in all though it works and looks great with a nice light up display and at a really great price. 4
