Customer Reviews

Bathtub Drain Got it on 6/27/15 and installed the same day...EZ install if you have the right tools...I had all the tools, so I was done in 30 minutes, cleanup included. The tools you will need to remove old drain: Superior Tool 06020 Tub Drain Wrench (this is a must or you'll have all kinds of problems), I used vise-grips to grip around the tool to remove old drain. Advise you set in the tub so as to get a good grip on the removal tools, turn counter clockwise to remove old drain...new drain does not come with a rubber washer, so you'll need plumber's putty too. DO NOT USE SILICONE! only plumber's putty. Make a bead of plumber's putty around the bottom of the new drain. Screw the new drain into hole by hand 1st, then use the tools mentioned above to tighten down the new drain. Cleanup the excess plumber's putty around drain immediately before it dries. Allow a few hours curing time before running water in the tub. 4 stars because no rubber seal comes with unit. 4PERFECT FIT / EASY INSTALL This was a wonderful purchase. Quality parts, perfect fit, and simple install. I am truly happy with this product kit. I would highly recommend this to others! One thing - do yourself a favor and get a Drain Removal Wrench (about $10.00). It's worth buying or borrowing (from a friend/neighbor/etc.) this wrench if you do not already have one. The wrench makes removal of the old drain easy, easy, easy! You can buy the wrench here on Amazon Superior Tool 06020 Tub Drain Wrench (Dumbell Wrench)-Dual Ended Drain Wrench that fits 3/8 or 1/2 Inch Ratchet Wrench OR you can find it at any hardware or home improvement store.And.........for the poor reviews based on the diameter of the drain flange, well, the product is correct because it is for a 1 1/2 inch diameter (inside measurement) - hint, hint, the 1 1/2 inch diameter is for the inside of the drain fitting, and, yes, it does fit properly. Therefore, the outer diameter is 1 3/4 inch because it is supposed to be. Mine fit perfectly. Therefore, it's a good idea to measure the inside of the drain flange or even take it with you to a store or to a plumber to verify what size you have. Guessing or assuming just causes problems during the install. Also, do use plumber's putty for the drain flange piece, and after removing the old drain flange - this is a good time to check the gasket between the flange and elbow piping. Mine was in good shape so I left it in place. 5Beautiful ... but Not Compatible These beautiful pieces of trim from Moen are easy to install in most tubs.Unfortunately when you try to also change out the knobs with a similar color, you're likely to find that it won't work. The problem is that Moen constantly changes the way trim kits are installed - requiring a change not just in the trim kit, but also in the plumbing that the trim kits connect to.The result? The only way to update this is to pay a professional plumber a small fortune to update your trim kit. Which (as in our case) may also include cutting into the fiberglass on your tub and leaving an ugly door or patch job. 1Moen admits this description is wrong! This is a frustrating, unfair purchase with no offers to amend the damage. The description for this Expensive drain and overflow cap states (c/p) from above: "Product description - Color:Oil-Rubbed Bronze - Includes a 2-hole to center-hole adaptor for overflow cover." NO, no it doesn't! There is No adapter. I go for help and am given 2 choices: talk to an expert or the manufacturer. Each provides an 800 phone number and the Moen website. The first call said, "Yeah, that description is wrong. Go find a plate." The second call says, "we'll call you back later." The Moen website shows the package as a PDF download coming with 2 screws. NO, No it doesn't! The day is over and no call back or returned email. And I see no way to return this Expensive, Wrong, Falsely advertised product. The overflow cap is useless with zero hardware to rig it to fit anything. How is this ethical? SOMEone needs to fix this! 1Awesome Quality. But, Surprise! The dimensions on the site show the thread diameter to be 1 1/2". Wrong.Be sure to get the right size drain flange for your tub's drain shoe (the pipe that's under the tub that the drain flange screws into). In my case, an older 1984 tub, the drain shoe is 1 3/8". Pipe size "designation" is not the same as the pipe size "dimensions". I called Moen, twice, and even they couldn't explain this to me...had to figure it out on my own. Amazon has the correct offerings, just not of Moen quality. If you have a new construction house, this Moen drain flange most likely would fit. 5Wrong size Wrong size. Description says fits 1 1/2 inch drains. But it is 1 3/4. I have attached a photo. Of course I finally got around to installing it 3 days after the return window closed. I hope Amazon will be nice and let me return it. 1Standard fit, awesome quality Although a bit pricey, this is really just 20 bucks more than a plastic generic one from Home Depot or Lowe's. Quality is awesome, this looks solid and looks good. Fits standard 1.5 thread fitting (as someone explained earlier measurements work differently in the pluming world, this is not diameter). Not to strip paint off the screw, I recommend tightening the screw through a tissue or paper towel. Conversion bracket from 2 to 1 screw is not included so you might have to make your own from aluminum or so. 5... special tool that takes out the drain was very useful. I highly recommend getting one of those as ... The special tool that takes out the drain was very useful. I highly recommend getting one of those as I have used it for this purpose several times. The alternative is to try to wedge a screwdriver inside the cross-bars in the drain hole, but I have seen that approach go south very quickly. Invest in the drain removal tool! You'll use it again! The drain plug just screws down into the drain. I like the ones that pop up or latch (pull up and twist) better. For this one, you have to remove the entire drain plug to let the water out. I was also disappointed to find out that the overflow cover (with one center screw) did not come with the 2-to-1 adapter as nearly every other drain/plug/overflow kit sold at Home Depot or Lowes does. I see that someone else mentioned it and the answer given was to purchase the Moen 142538 Part Cross Bar Service Kit (for about $3 plus shipping). While I was at Lowes, I asked the Plumbing Sales Rep if they sold the cross bar separately. He just opened up a similar kit, gave me the cross bar and said, "Here you go." I love those guys! So, my rating is 3 stars since the drain plug has to screw all of the way out to drain properly and this order did not include the cross bar. 3Pricy, but completes the entire brushed nickel look Looks fantastic and completes the entire bath and shower trim kit. A little on the pricy side though. I needed two but didn't realize that one tub needed a two hole configuration. Luckily, there is a Moen 142538 Hardware Kit available to convert a two-hole configuration to the one-hole cover sold here. As for installation, I had a local plumber install this and everything else and I'm quite glad I didn't try to attempt the install myself even though I had the tools for these parts. Apparently, the tub shoe/drain is something that can easily break if there is a plastic pipe underneath. This can happen during removal of the old tub shoe or installation of the new one. The faceplate doesn't require any plumber assistance. 4An Additional Part Needed for New Tub Installations https://www.amazon.com/Westbrass-Elbow-Converter-Bracket-792BR/dp/B014LSLO5Q/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=westbrass+tip+elbow+converter&qid=1560462822&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0The part by Westbrass is called a Top Elbow Converter Bracket. It is called that because the overflow drain is at the TOP of the PVC piping, and a 90 degree PVC elbow is behind the overflow drain cover. It is a $6 part online. It would be simpler to order an overflow cover with two screws instead. I ordered from Moen instead of a no-name company to avoid all this sh*t. I'm sure it would have worked out alright if I had been at a plumbing supply store. But, I am not. I am many miles away from town.It fit my application well. I bought a new tub drain kit. The Moen part screws right in. It is the correct size for what I have. I bought the kit that requires PVC to glue the parts together instead of one that screws together. 3
