Customer Reviews

Great solution to raise flange Great kit for raising a flange to its proper height above floor level, so that you can use a normal sized wax ring and guarantee no future leaks as the toilet chute fits inside this new higher yellow flange.I had a toilet tank crack and thus had to replace toilet. When I removed the old toilet, noted the flange was about 1/2" below floor because the builder installed a tile floor after setting the flange on the subfloor, and they had used double wax rings to "bandage" up their shortfall. Eventually, that would have leaked, even though it had held up for several years.I removed the old screws holding the old plastic flange down, positioned this one in place and set toilet on it, before I screwed it in to ensure everything lined up. Hint, I did not use their markings at exactly 3/9, I twisted it a few degrees so that the toilet bolt slots had some slop instead of hitting the stops at exactly 3/9. Be sure to line up the gasket/red spacer/yellow flange holes (don't drill through them unnecessarily). Ensure this sits in the middle of the drain, and the toilet chute sits in the middle of this yellow flange. Then, I packed wax around the outside of the yellow tube below the gasket to help ensure no water could come up the outside of the yellow tube from the drain, and get to the gasket (probably not necessary but anyway....) before inserting it down the drain. I predrilled holes through the old plastic flange, even though the screws are self tapping (again, not necessary, but why not). Don't overtorque them, and tighten them in a criss-cross pattern. I used a normal size, not reinforced, no flange, basic wax ring. 5So far so good, but not without some drawbacks. It is a good retrofit solution thus far, I hope it holds up. I followed the instructions exactly, ensured the spacers were at or just below floor height, yet after install the toilet itself was up higher than normal, slightly but enough to cause some rocking and require shims. Plus the yellow insert that goes down into the drain reduces the diameter of the PVC quite a bit. We've already needed to plunge the toilet once in a short span of time, and I'm hoping this isn't going to cause a lot of repeat issues, otherwise i'll be needing to research alternatives. All in all, it seems effective, I've been testing for leaks and am good so far. Seems to be made out of a durable plastic that will hold up over time, so generally pleased with the product. 4Does just what it says it will do I did quite a bit of research into the problem of a having a toilet flange below the finished floor level and the possible solutions. I settled on Set-Rite because of its simplicity, solid engineering, and its ability to adapt to a wide variety of honked up toilet flanges. Mine was a combination of my having tiled the bathroom floor, thus leaving the flange below the finished floor level, and a previous owner who added in the bathroom and installed the flange incorrectly (clocked wrong so that the toilet had to be rotated about 10 degrees in order to bolt it down). On top of that, the flange was badly damaged because of the ham-handed original installation and it was way out of level.Set-Rite easily addressed all of these issues. All of the parts needed for a successful installation are included (except for the wax rings) and the instructions are very clear. There is a great video on YouTube describing the product and the various installation options. (Look for the 13 minute one...) Put simply, it did just what it said it would do and now I have a correctly installed toilet that is square to the wall. Can't ask for any better than that. 5Excellent solution for problematic/low toilet flanges! I wish I'd found this product earlier as it solves the problem of the toilet floor flange that is too low in a floor and is creating leaks and problems. I used this flange extender kit in an over 100+ year old farm house that had a steel toilet pipe that empties out into a septic tank at the back of my girlfriend's home. Water would leak out at the front of the toilet because the old flange was too low in the floor because of past renovations. Initially I was worried because the old sewer pipe had pre-drilled holes around the steel lip of the old flange and would only allow 2 of the 4 mounting holes to align properly. However by offsetting the new flange a bit I was able to drill new holes and was able to mount the Set-Rite extendable flange properly and it is as solid as a rock! I only needed one of the small spacers too and since the throat of the extender projects down until the sewer pipe the leak was eliminated and the toilet mounted flush and is secured in place.I really wasn't aware that the toilet flange actually needed to be "above the floor" and having this extra bit of knowledge was very beneficial and is good to know as it makes sense. And by purchasing this extender kit you actually stand to not only benefit/take care of the problem, but can save a ton of money via the elimination of having to rebuild, reconfigure and re-plumb an existing and problematic toilet flange that is leaking and creating other problems like wet, soggy and rotting flooring material. This is a well-made, quality product, does exactly what the seller states it will do and for me, was well worth the investment. It is a simple installation and can be installed in short order if you follow the instructions and have performed similar tasks. I would also recommend that you inspect the flooring too to make sure that wood is solid and does not need to be replaced beneath the old flange. 5Decent but planning needed Anyone else have trouble getting regular toilet bolts to fit in the yellow flange? The bolts that came with my new toilet would not fit because the head was rounded and the flanges to shallow to accommodate the thickness of the bolt head. Then, I bought plastic bolts and the flanges path for the bolts was too narrow for those. I literally had to whittle away a millimeter or two of the diameter (of the plastic bolts) so I could feed them into place. I don't know why they make the bolt holes/ path so restrictive on this. Also, be warned - the flange and spacers are over 7" in diameter. My original toilet flange is JUST under 7" and I tiled up so close to the existing flange, that the spacers won't fit in the hole that i have (1/2" lower than flush with floor). I don't have much other of an option, so I am trimming some of the meat away from the 1/2" spacer in a couple spots of its outer edge, so I can get this down into the hole.If I had bought it earlier in the process, I would have known and could plan for it, so let it be a caution for everyone else - at least buy and dry fit this kit before you put down tile! And check your toilet bolts. You might need to insert the toulet bolts into place aticking up, BEFORE you screw the yellow flange down. 4Flawless Did the job flawlessly. Recently tiled my restroom which raised the floor up about 3/4. Higher than usual for a tile floor, but this is due to the self leveling material I used to level the floor and the uncoupling membrane I used on top of that. This caused my toilet flange to sit about 3/4 of an inch below the surface of the floor. A local plumber that I know recommended this toilet flange extension kit to me to resolve that problem and it worked flawlessly. I had to use the half inch spacer. That along with the main yellow flange brought my toilet flange up to the perfect height of about 1/4 inch above the finished floor. Took me about 5 minutes to install and worked flawlessly. Made reinstalling my toilet a breeze with out the use of extra thick wax rings or even worse, stacking wax rings on top of each other which is a big no no. 5Saed me a lot of work! This worked out perfectly. I installed a new toilet in a friends condo. The steel flange that was previously install was not even close to level. It was a permanent install so I could not easily remove it. Cast iron tied into a cast iron pipe. The old toilet was leveled with a couple wooden paint stirrers. Yikes! This system did lend itself to off level steel flanges. You simply install the correct number and thickness of the supplied plastic rings. To leel the toilet, simply snap one or more of the rings in half along the score marks on the ring. then install the half ring on the low side. The supplied screws were not long enough for my installation, so I needed to purchase 4 1/2" screws. The supplied screws were, I think, 3 inches long. Long enough for most installations. 5Best option on the market for remodels. Would buy again. This is a very cool product for what it does. We replaced our bathroom vinyl floors with tile recently, which made our toilet flange about an inch lower than the new floor surface. I didn't want to "double-wax-ring" it, and preferred to do it right, so I won't have any leaks down the road, and came across this product after looking at other solutions. This product is engineered very well, and the makers have thought of just about everything. Installing it was pretty simple, the hardest part being I had to drill 6 holes in my original cast iron flange. I wore down 2 drill bits accomplishing this, but that is because it was cast iron. The flange kit went down perfect, I used the wax ring method for the gasket rather than their foam gasket as that is what is called for on cast iron flanges. Added the spacers, and the extender/flange top and screwed the whole thing down. It fit tight, no movement, felt pretty solid. So far so good with the new toilet we installed on it.The only problem I ran into during install was one of the screws in the kit got stripped and stuck due a mis-aligned hole that I had predrilled in the original flange. I had to use pliers to get the screw out, and the screw was done for. I had to source a new, similar screw at the hardware store as the original was stripped on the head, as well as the threads damaged. Luckily I found one. Would be nice if the manufacturer charged a couple extra dollars and supplied a couple extra screws with the kit in case this happens (as it seems I'm not the only one). Screws are cheap, but finding the right one to replace with is difficult, took trips to 2 different stores, and I found something close rather than exactly the same. Would have been extra nice if I could have had a couple backup screws in the kit to pull out and fix.For the price, I would recommend this to anyone who is remodeling, or who replaces a toilet and has a flange not at the correct height. The affordable price more than makes it worth while in the peace of mind of having it done correctly. I would buy again if I needed over any other "extender system" on the market, this one is the best. 5Excellent solution - will require some extra thought and DIY power. We rebuilt our bathroom floor which raised the floor about 3/8 of an inch. This meant that we needed to raise the level of the toilet flange enough to make a seal with the wax ring. This is a tremendous solutions because it is almost universal.Pros: - Everything you need is in one kit. - The parts are sturdy and durable.Cons: - The instructions on the packaging are terrible. You CAN find better instructions by going to the Set-Rite web site. They are hard to find. If you don't understand the principles pretty well, NONE of the instructions will help. To make it work, you will need to look at all of the different directions and piece it together - The mounting holes are not universal. My home was built in 1951, and none of the holes in the flange that was in place lined up. I had to drill holes in order to secure the Set-Rite extension. Not difficult, but odd. It was close to the same size. Maybe the standard changed. 4Outstanding product! Solves your toilet leak issues. After our contractor retiled the bathroom, the toilet flange ended up 2 inches below the tile. The plumber stacked two wax rings to make up the space between the toilet flange and the top of the tile floor. This setup lasted 2 years before the surrounding tile and grout started changing colors. I came across the Set-Rite product completely by accident searching for fixes on the Internet, and this is by far the best product I've come across in a long time. I installed this kit by myself in about an hour or two, and the result is a toilet flange at floor level, ready for a standard wax ring. No stacking rings, no rubber extenders. No hoping or praying. Thanks to Set-Rite, I now have a standard 3 inch toilet flange at floor level, gas tight. The big box guys need to carry this product in their stores. The stuff they currently have - the waxless rings, so-called extenders - none come close to the Set-Rite product. I know because I tried all the things the big box guys had. This product should be required on every bathroom remodel.Installing this product was pretty straight forward. The hardest part was pulling the toilet off and on. I purchased the extender kit (1/4 to 1 5/8 inch) because I wasn't sure how much height I needed to add to my existing toilet flange. The kit came with 4 rings or different heights, and I was able to stack the rings completely flush to my tile surface without any problems. Screwing in the yellow flange was a little more challenging because I was drilling into a concrete pad. If your subfloor is concrete, I suggest drilling some pilot holes with a titanium drill bit before you put the included screws through. Any standard wax ring is a perfect fit on top of the yellow flange. It is not necessary to use a reinforced ring.Fantastic product, I wish my contractor had known about this product. It would have saved me much aggravation and time. Thanks Set-Rite! 5
