Customer Reviews

Too expensive to be useful for less than a year!Like some others the wood on the bottom part of the pepper mill split! You should not buy this product until Peugot figures out the problem with this. There is also not any place on their site where you can find out how to talk to somebody about repairs.1DisappointedWe are very disappointed. We bought a "good" (so we thought) peppermill. It worked for awhile, but now doesn't, and we missed the window for sending it back. Guess the name Peugeot doesn't mean what we thought it did. It is very difficult to select the grind, and it doesn't come out when you do get it there. You cannot fill it very full. Junk for $42.2A superior pepper millDoes what a pepper grinder should do, produce lots and lots of pepper of consistent grind.Years ago, I bought a small Perfex grinder at Zabar's in NYC and for 25 years, it was fantastic. We recently moved and my antique but great pepper grinder somehow got lost. I ordered a new Perfex from Amazon but it did not work nearly as well as its predecessor so I sent it back and ordered the Peugeot and an Atlas. This grinder fulfills all the simple requirements of a pepper grinder. It is (1) easy to fill (unscrew the knurled nut at the top, remove the top and pour your peppercorns in. replace the top and the nut.), (2) it produces lots of freshly ground pepper when you turn it to grind and (3) it is easy to adjust. Actually, maybe a little too easy which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. The adjustment is made by rotating the upper barrel against the lower part of the barrel. The smaller numbers produce finer grind. But the adjustment is soft--there are no detents to hold it in a particular setting--which makes me think that it will be easy to inadvertently change while you are grinding. Time will tell. But overall, I am pleased. This works well at a reasonable price and I expect that it will work for many years. Provided I don't move and lose it.4making it useless. I think the maker of the grinder I purchased this thinking it was well built and as been around for years. The product no longer works properly due the screws coming out which holds the grinding mechanism together. One screw is lost and the other is not sufficient because it anchors in plastic and thus is stripped, making it useless. I think the maker of the grinder, Peugeot, should send me another grinder since the first one does not work to their standards. 3grind me a poundThis is made by the famous French Peugeot company. They have been known as making the finest pepper grinders for decades, if not since pepper grinders were invented! This particular item has their unique system of being able to change the grind coarseness by turning the bottom of the device, to one of 4 settings. At it's coarsest it will grind more like cracked pepper, and at its finest more like what cheaper grinders produce at their largest grind setting. In other words, if you want to coat a steak with cracked pepper, this will do it. If you want a little pepper on your salad, and not sneeze while applying it, this grinder will be perfect. If you like the powdery, tiny grind you get in most restaurants, this is not your grinder.I have had a couple of Peugeot's smaller grinders, one for salt and one for pepper. They apparently will last forever. None of my other grinders (at least 6 others) work as well as a Peugeot. Forget about ceramic, stainless, etc., this is the one to get. Time tested and proven to be the standard by which others are measured.5Grinding mechanism reliable, wood case notThe control for adjustable mechanism, is housed behind a wood ring cover at the bottom. You turn the wood ring to adjust the grinder housed beneath it.The wood ring on both my Puegeot mills has cracked after two years of normal use. I've made make-shift repairs using tape as a tension ring to hold the wood roing in place. Thie cracks affects both the appearance and the abiklity to adjust the grind..In theory, both my pepper mills are still under warranty. I purchased them in early 2016. I attempted to file a warranty claim on Puegeot's web site . Puegot's website said there was an error with no explanation, and wouldn't accept my claim. In the future I would buy another Puegeot pepper mill. In fact, I just did. But I would never again buy one of the models that uses a thin wood ring covering the adjustment mechanism at the bottom. It's lousy engineering. The warranty isn't a warranty when you cannot gain access to file a claim.1Came disassembled in a cheap, open-ended plastic bag with peppercorns spilling out...This $35 pepper grinder was chucked into an open bag (no box or papers). It came in pieces but I m assuming it was fully assembled when it was shipped since there are peppercorns spilling everywhere (unless they put the disassembled pieces in and then just threw in a bunch of loose peppercorns for good measure. Will be returning.1So far so good. No Issues! So far so good. Grinds coarse the way I like it. Simple to use and so far have not had any issues. If I had any complaint it would be in filling it. Small opening can be a little difficult to fill with if you use a large bottle of peppercorns like I do. But if you take your time it does work out.5A quality item you'll use everyday & Love! I have had many pepper mills over time from many brands, they just don't work longterm because of being cheaply constructed. Bought this one based on many reviews, and it does deliver. Just a really good Peppermill, ergonomic, simple smooth wood finish, has many settings as to size of grind, it does the job, and is something I use each day. I couldn't be happier with this brand. A wonderful addition to anyone's kitchen. 5Rated best by NYT Wirecutter, I disagreeThe pepper mill works decently enough, its fairly easy to fill although I do typically drop a few peppercorns. It has preset grinding coarseness settings although finding the setting marks and indicator is difficult . I had to make a mark with a pen to see where its set. My biggest complaint is that the screw on cap that holds it together comes loose constantly. Still, not a bad pepper mill, but I can't believe this is the best. By the way, if you want the best pepper I have ever had...go to "reluctanttrading" dot com and get the Tellicherry. It is unbelievably aromatic and fresh and tasty. A chef told me about it and he was not wrong.3Inconsistent productI originally bought a u-select 7 inch set (salt & pepper). I liked the set so much, I decided to purchase just the pepper grinder for my mother for her birthday. She did not need the salt grinder, as they use loose coarse salt. My purchases were made about two years apart. I am disappointment to say that my mother's grinder is worthless compared to the original pepper grinder from the set that I have. My mother didn't want to tell me that hers was not working properly from the beginning, as she had received it as a gift. Is there a way to receive a replacement pepper grinder??? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.2Solid grinder for a great price.I've had this grinder for over a year now. I've had several pepper grinders in the past that didn't last 6 months. I use them pretty much daily unless I'm on vacation. I've run 4 or 5 1lb bags of pepper through this grinder and it keeps going strong. The grinding mechanism is fantastic, I have worn out a few grinders, and this one seems to be lasting a very long time. The "U'Select" adjustment works well although the marks are a little off now. It's not going to win any beauty contests, however, I don't buy grinders to sit on the counter and look pretty. This thing is a workhorse. The only complaints I have with this grinder is that the brass nob on top gets loose sometimes, although, that might just be my grinding motion. Also I'm not able to get the grind adjustment down to the finest level anymore...but I think the internals may have just shifted, because I can still get a very fine grind out of it...the marks just don't line up anymore. That's not a big deal to me...I go by size of grind coming out, not the marks on the side.5Wood at the bottom split in half after a few months Like many of the other one star reviews, the wood at the bottom of the grinder split in half within a few months of use. Clearly, there is a manufacturing problem. Beyond that, however, the design of the grinder is not well thought out. You have to take it apart to refill it, making it a much more time consuming process than it should be. Not the end of the world, but at the same time, I m sure there are better alternatives. Bought this product because of the brand reputation, rather than doing my homework. Was a mistake. 1
