Customer Reviews

Good for that little extra safety! A little extra security doesn't hurt (except your wallet a little). Use your own screws though. 5Helps protect my autistic sonI am really happy with this purchase. My teenager autistic son always tries to get out of the house from windows. He always on the roof of the house which very scary. We tried everything that can block windows from opening, but he figured it out. It s not only solved my problem, I can also open the windows and have a peace of mind.5S 4768 Window GuardThis was a hard size to find and I was delighted when I found this. It is perfect for my kitchen window. I can now leave the window open even when I leave the house without worry about a psycho neighbor coming in. I like to be able to leave a window open while I go shopping so I can come home to a fresh house. I was nervous that having bars across a window I look out of often would be depressing, but I find it reassuring and makes me feel safe.5Screws are just terrible--not secure at all. Ordinarily these types of products are 100% top quality, have never disappointed, etc. However, though the bars feel sturdy and it seemed simple enough to install (clear directions, no missing parts) a HUGE component of this product disappointed me greatly--the screws. They aren't exactly flat head screws, and they aren't phillip's head screws. Finding a compatible bit to drill these into (very firm) window casings was next to impossible, but flat heads seemed to work okay. Furthermore, the screws are terrible, awful, bad quality. Two of the screws' heads snapped off (even with pre-drilled holes in the casings). I expect something as important as child safety to come paramount to a company, and they've definitely missed the mark by using the cheapest screws possible. Basically something that could be a wonderful safety measure has become utterly useless to me considering most likely these screws will snap out of the casings with pressure. Before finishing this installation, when a screw had already snapped in half, I decided NOT to use the components included in this and went to Home Depot for decent screws. I recommend everyone else does the same--do not use the screws included in this window guard. 2good, but security screws are annoying Good for toddler windows (we have another egress in the room but these are solid and not removable for fire which could matter for some rooms). Low profile but provides good safety cover for our windows that go down to about 6 inches above floor in a toddler room. Throw away the screws that come with it and just use your own 2 inch or longer screws. The security screws they send with it are a disaster. Once we threw them out it was quick and easy to install 5Needs improvementFirst off, the hardware isn't secure in the box so there are screws falling from everwhere. I ordered two of the units and both of the had the screws just flopping around in the box. Secondly, it is difficult to screw the unit into the studs so installation is a nightmare.2Seem sturdy and while they can be breached it would be ...Using 2 as a barrier to entry on a 48 x 48 " window. One flush to the top and one flush to the bottom. Also needed a horizontal center post in the middle. Seem sturdy and while they can be breached it would be a noisy process. I used my own installation screws because the included ones were difficult to work with.4Extra securityI bought 18 of these bars in various lengths and widths for extra security on my rear, side, and basement windows. I live on a 1.5 acre lot with a wooded area behind me that's pitch black at night. A previous house by my wife was broken into a few years back with 2ft of snow on the ground in broad daylight so I take security seriously. The bars blend in with the white wood blinds and vinyl window casing so they are not noticeable until you get really close up on them. My only issue is all of the bars I received from Amazon, the clear plastic surrounding them was torn and the small plastic bag containing the screws attached to one of the bars by a zip-tie all had holes in them. Not all of the screws came with the bars and others the screws were scattered throughout the shipping box. I don't look at this as a Amazon issue but more of an issue with the cheap packing by the manufacture. The bars serve their purpose but be aware you will have to purchase screws to install them.4Sturdy enough: Nothing missing or broken on two orders--great fit! These sturdy, not unattractive bars are exactly what I needed inside the rather wide kitchen and bathroom windows of my studio, where emergency egress is required. The property manager and another maintenance worker did the install for me without troubles. These back windows face a dimmer, lower-traffic patch in the complex, while the giant front window (so huge that installing security bars would maybe be impossible unless some were custom made) is bathed in bright lights in a high-traffic common area covered by several security cameras. So finding window bars for the back has been a priority. But I found these through a manufacturer comment on another product on Amazon and googling, not from searching Amazon for "egress compliant" window security bars. The Amazon link showed in Google, where it hadn't on Amazon, though I searched Amazon for the exact model number after seeing that info in the comment--weird.The packaging was completely intact, and nothing was broken on or missing from the two I received--happy! 5Easy install, but think through what screws to useEasy to mount, flexible in size.Make sure you realize that the screws included are NOT removable and are best for external security applications to defeat screwdriver wielding burglars. That unusual flathead pattern only lets your drive it in. With the non-removable screw head buried in the mounting bracket you will not be able to take this down without serious work.If you're mounting internally for kiddos and don't want them up til demo day, get some regular screws so you can clean the windows, etc.5Nice For A GarageNot sure in the end how much protection this window guard will yield to the determined thief, but it at least serves as a nice deterrent for any kids or others that might be tempted to break into a garage or basement. I installed this window guard in my garage against a window for some extra piece of mind. I opted to use some longer screws than what were included with the packaging to ensure the guard will require a lot of force to be potentially kicked out. The quality of the paint job and metal seem fine, especially for a garage window. This guard also doesn't block too much light from entering the garage or looking like an eye sore.4Small price to pay for peace of mindI don't love the idea of bars over the window but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. These rails are sturdy and were easy to install over our casement window on the Second Story of an apartment rental.5Buy your own screws I ordered two of them for my uspstair windows for the safety of my kids. These window guards are heavy, and seems to be a good quality product. But One of them came with damaged box, the missing screws, And looks used. Both of them has scratch on them. But one thing that drives me crazy is the screws, I have never seen this kind of screws before, I do not think that there is any kinds of tools can work with it. I have to run to Home Depot to buy my own screws. Finally, get them installed, it looks ok. So, I decided to keep them. 3Great bars Being in an apartment and their windows not sturdy enough, I needed something to ensure. Y kids will be safer than the apartment's cheap window lock. These bars give me a peace of mind at night knowing that my kids are safer if someone tried to break in. Very easy to install and screws come with it. The screws provided are really good quality screws and not cheap flimsy screws that typically come in packages. Well worth the money. 5Awesome i don't do a lot of reviews but since this can help the kids i will do one, my little boy got out the back window a few days ago think god i have a full 6 foot fence but with in 5 minutes i noticed him and now im into safety mode,i was thinking bars for my windows would cost 100 or more per window for something good ,i was wrong i got these and this is so strong ,was packaged good and shipped fast ,i have a alarm system and a camera system and don't live in the best neighborhood but in the summer i like to keep a window open or 2 and its a pain to by pass the alarm so i leave it off at night, so i installed this bar on the outside of my window it fit perfect in the frame holes are great but i re drilled 2 so i could angel 4 inch screws into the studs . took me about 20 minutes total and they thing is soild as a rock .. i all ready feel safer with my window open i can still put my fan in it and i do not at all have to worry about my boy getting out the house or anyone crawling in at night no more.. ok now if there is a fire i will not be able to get out this window , so i have 7 windows down stairs im going to put these on the 3 that would most likely be broken into and let me alarm cover the rest . if u have a window your scared to leave open or a window the kids mess with get this it will give you 100 percent piece of mind, them safety latches are nice but i know my kid could open them within 15 minutes ,he will not be able to open this and i can sleep with fresh air at night again this is a 6 star product !!!! 5Great added security.I installed this in a basement window for added security. Works great! Easy to setup and install with one person and I love how the mounting screws go all the way into the bracket so that they cannot be quickly or easily unscrewed.Pro tip! If you want some added safety go to the hardware store and grab yourself some 4 inch star bit screws. No burglar will be carrying around a star bit and a drill!5very rigid and provide a nice visual deterrent to potential burglarsI have an older arts and crafts house that has many windows in many configurations, so I had put off the installation of internal security bars because of the significant cost. These were extremely inexpensive so I took the plunge and was pleasantly surprised. The bars are well made, very rigid and provide a nice visual deterrent to potential burglars. Installation is easy. The egress type take a few more minutes but are also easy and do work well. You can modify these with reciprocating saw if you need to. To be clear these are not sold as security bars and the product info tells you that. So you can spend much, much more on heavier gauge bars. But the reality is any determined B and E artist with the correct tools and a little time can defeat whatever bars you install no matter how good. The point is to stack up enough security measures, bars, lighting, cameras etc., so that even a pro, decides to pass on your house.5Size matters! Be sure to measure your needs. Not wanting a "permanent solution", I took a chance with these to prevent my dogs from being tempted to jump from my second story bay window. They fit PERFECTLY into the channels of my windows! I feel confident that my boys will be safe now. 5
