Customer Reviews

STOP! Confirm that your display is NOT a THUNDERBOLT display before purchasing!I have two Mac Monitors: A Cinema Display, and a Thunderbolt Display. They look the same, but trust me, they aren't. The Thunderbolt has a Thunderbolt port on the back, whereas the Cinemas do not.The problem is that Thunderbolt Displays ONLY use Thunderbolt communication, whereas the Cinema Displays handle True DisplayPort communication. Apple's infinite wisdom said, "Hey, let's use the same type of connector, just to screw any non-Mac users from using this device!"You can find out which one(s) you have using the "System Report" under the Apple Icon's System info. Be sure to identify all of your monitor types connected.4apple LED Cinema DisplayThis tiny DisplayPort adapter works just perfect for my 24" Apple LED Cinema Display which has 1920x1200 resolution. My windows machine has Ryzen 1700x with RX 480 on Asus B350 board and wondered if I could use my old LED Cinema Display. It works great with no issue and supports display's full resolution. I'm happy with this adapter and I would recommend highly for a setup like mine.5Needed to connect apple cinema display to dell laptopWe have just updated a work laptop from apple macbook to a dell laptop and I wanted to connect the 24in Apple Cinema display to this new dell laptop. This was a lot more complicated that I had expected since the apple cinema display uses mini display port and the dell laptop only had one VGA and three USB ports. So I looked into connecting it to the VGA port but that is very very complicated since VGA is an analog signal and the mini display port is a digital signal just buying a vga to mini display port connector is not enough you have to actually convert the signal which requires some very expensive signal processing hardware. So I read through the manual and two of the USB ports are actually USB 3.0 which can be used to connect a external monitor. So I found this StarTech USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adaptor then I bought the StarTech DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort adapter (DP2MDPMF6IN) which allowed me to plug in the mini display port plug from the Apple Cinema Display into. After following the directions and installing the included software everything works great! I didn't think this would work, apple and pc hardware don't usually play well together. The picture on the 24-in Apple Cinema Display looks Stunning! No lag or other issues, the only problem is I can't figure out how to turn down the brightness. After connecting the USB plug from the Apple Cinema Display I was able to get the built in iSight camera working and the built in speakers along with the apple keyboard that was plugged into the displays usb hub on the back. Honestly I was ready to buy a new Dell LED monitor but I am very happy I could get the old Apple Display to work with the Dell Laptop, it is just a much more beautifully made object and the color and clarity of the display is better than I could have hopped for!5awesome adapter!!!we needed to set up a PC laptop to connect video out to a 52" flatscreen that was already setup for video out from a macbook. we did not want to get an entirely new cord and take down the 52 monitor, so, we thought up a connector we needed and started a search on Amazon and, voil !, Amazon had it and saved the day! :-)with this pc adapter and an existing macbook Mini DP to HDMI cord connected to your monitor, you simply connect the Mini DP female end to a Mini DP male end (which fits in Mini DP/macbook video out) and the other end into the video out of the PC laptop... now, have PC laptop video displayed on the big screen for a mere incremental of $6.26! sweet! :-)i thought it was a dream that i would find such an adapter and simple solution for hard wire displaying both mac and pc video to the big screen! however, here it is and we are so pleased that such a nifty, inexpensive adapter existed. . in summary, if you are a dual pc/mac household, then you are in business if you just get this adapter along with a Mini DP Male to HDMI Male connector. We have used the following cable connector for years to display video from a macbook on the 52" monitor with no issues; HDE 10ft. Mini Display Port / Mini DP Male to HDMI Male HD Cable Gold Plated Apple MacBook to HDTV Monitor Adapter ... then, when you want to display a pc laptop, instead of the macbook, just add this nifty adapter and, you are all set! :-)a MUST-HAVE for both pc and mac households needing to hard connect video to a large monitor! :-)very, very pleased! ...Thank you. :-)!5Cintiq Pro connection (part one of two)Part one of two for me to finally be able to convert an HDMi connection on my laptop to a Cintiq Pro.Works like a charm. Thank you Star Tech for doing something that Cintiq ridiculously doesn't include or even recommend to help their customers! Thanks to you folk I don't need to return a $900 device. To get the most common connection (HDMI) to work with a Cintiq pro you must get this part number: DP2MDPMF6in & this part number : HD2DP hooking them together. I know it seems ridiculous to make that many connections and it adds more cables which is counter intuitive but it worked for me and four other solutions did not. Best of luck and a big finger to Cintiq for not including these items and tech support not mentioning a solution exists.5I have this table hook up to my new 1080 GTX and it works perfect and will display full res ofA must have if you own a Apple Cinema Display or a thunderbolt display and you want to use Nvidia GPU's on your Classic Mac Pro's, I have this cable hook up to my new 1080 GTX and it works perfect and will display full res of 2560x14405Why don't other manufactures make this adapter too??? This adapter saved me several hundreds of dollars, almost a thousand in some case.First, I didn't have to sell my 27-inch LED Cinema display.Second, I didn't have to spend a fortune to purchase a super high end graphics card to get mini-DP.Third, I didn't have to look for other 2k 27-inch monitor with IPS panel and the great looks. So why don't apple make this adapter? Or any other manufactures? This is THE ONLY ONE adapter that serves this function on the whole internet (as of 1/25/2015). I went to every cable shop and they haven't even seen or heard of one of these things. This adapter supports audio signal over the DP beautifully.I might want to purchase an extra one of this, just in case this thing goes out of production and cannot be found on the internet anywhere. 5Zero drawbacksFor using an Apple Cinema Display with any modern graphics card, this is the prodigal missing piece.I recently ordered a (going out of date) Apple Cinema Display, (ACD), to use with my PC/OS X rig. Little did I know, the only input for the ACD was its MALE Mini DisplayPort, (MDP), cable coming from the display. No female inputs whatsoever.I also ordered the relatively newer EVGA GeForce 960 GTX FTW edition graphics card, and this adapter helped my plug n' play with the ACD. The graphics card has a FEMALE DisplayPort, (DP), for use with the MALE DP on the adapter. The FEMALE MDP on the adapter hooks up to the MALE MDP on the ACD to work flawlessly and create a crisp image. Thanks for the product!5save at least $1000 for meI'm a professional photographer, I used to use mac as my working platform, but I moved to PC (custom build) for the best value. I have a apple LED cinema display which cost me about $1000, and I love this monitor and want to keep using it.Last year, there is no such product in the market, so if I build my own PC, I have to buy a new monitor, such like DELL Ultrasharp 30 or 27 inch, 800-1300 varies, and i have to sell my apple monitor since i dont use it anymore. Another solution is to buy the GTX X90 series, which will cost you about $800 only for the video card, since only top model from nvedia comes with mini display port. This product is very simple, you just plug the mini display port cable (male) from your apple cinema display into the female part or this product, then plug the display port( male) to your video card( Display Port is the standard port that comes with many video card).Works flawlessly, just like regular monitor, everything is perfect, I would buy this product even it will cost $100.Yes, I would recommend this to my friends.Solutions for Thunderbolt display users. This product wont't work for you, since thunderbolt cable integrated PCIE ( for data transfer) into the cable, the least expensive way to use the thunderbolt monitor and PC tower is to buy a motherboard that comewith thunderbolt port, which normallly cost $100+ for the same performance. Then you plug your display into your motherboard and then goes into BIOS settings and set the default video processor as INTEGRATED. Then google and buy the Virtu GPU software, this software allow discrete video card to calculate even you connect your display to mother card.5Works Worked in a daisy chain with a VGA-to-Mini Display Port adapter, permitting me to use it with two other monitors on an ATI Radeon card. Took me an embarrassing long while to figure out you had to depress the bit of plastic over the male DisplayPort to unplug it, which I note in case anyone runs into a similar issue. 5Poor product - does not handle DP bandwidth, causes display problemsFor a very long time, I had tons of occasional problems with one of StarTech's own KVM switches (a 2-PC mDP KVM, connected to a 3440x1440 21:9 screen), with the display flickering, half the screen bugging out, a few columns of pixels at the boundary showing random colors, random sounds emerging from the screen, display not resuming from sleep, etc. I checked every single other component in the link but neglected to check this adapter. Finally I recently happened to accidentally plug in a different DP to mDP adapter and realized this adapter was the root of all my problems. Avoid!1Works for Apple A1316 27 Cinema or Accell B087B-003J miniDisplayPort to dual-link DVI AdapterReconfiguring both Mac and Windows PCs and displays with DisplayPort, dual-link DVI, HDMI and miniDisplayPort connectors for various activities wants reliable interconnectivity among displays and computers. These work for me at 2560x1600 with 60Hz refresh. They should also work for higher refresh at lower resolutions, since the product of those three factors and bit depth is bandwidth, which will be the limiting constraint other than dimensional tolerances, which have also been satisfactory in my experience.Another consideration may be graphics adapter and driver [in]ability to correctly "sniff" attached displays, but that is no fault of these dongles...5Wonderful! Works better than advertised! =) I purchased this adapter hoping it would work in unison with another adapter (the VicTsing Mini-DisplayPort male to HDMI/VGA/DVI adapter). Luckily, the two work just fine together and I am able to easily extend my desktop to the projector or a second monitor.I cannot say with any certainty that there is or is not a cap on the output resolution since the other adapter it is paired with restricts output to 1080p. However, I can say it works as advertise and I'm pleased when it worked while paired with a second adapter. =) 5
