Customer Reviews

Complete piece of crap. I put a pair of 12-gauge landscape cables ... Complete piece of crap. I put a pair of 12-gauge landscape cables on it to continue my route... it simply does NOT screw/rotate back down on the cables. I tried for a long time, adjusting the cables, making sure I was pressing firmly, rotating the top, NOTHING. Bad product. 1The main negative issue is that noted by other reviewers--the center bolt just needs to be longer--even a few millimeters--to en As noted by other reviewers, this product works well. Its strength is the ability to connect yard lighting cable--12 gauge in our case--effectively. Our yard lights' electric cable had been damaged and required splicing. This product did the trick, worked the first time, and has been reliable across recent weeks since the repair. So, why only four stars? Two things. First, it's somewhat overpriced, but I can live with that. The main negative issue is that noted by other reviewers--the center bolt just needs to be longer--even a few millimeters--to engage the nut in the bottom part of the device more easily. I had to crimp the device with pliers to try to get it compressed enough for the nut--which kept falling out--to engage, which worried me that I'd end up breaking the whole thing. Once the bolt engaged, it worked fine...but a slight mechanical change would have led to task completion about 75% quicker, with much less swearing. This caveat aside, the product works well. 4Heavy Duty & Easy to install with standard 14 gauge wire My set of Malibu lights came with 75 feet of 14 gauge wire and I needed one more light to install to the opposite side of the run of lights. In other words my transformer was in the middle of were my lights are. One string going to the left and one light to the right. I ordered this and used left over wire from the kit to install the additional light.I simply tapped into the line and ran it the other direction. I had read some reviews about it being a pain to install because the screw was to short and you really need to press hard to get the screw to catch the nut and tighten down. I slid the wire in both sides and slid the top on and it caught instantly and with little effort I screwed it all the way down and connected the new light. The piece is a lot larger than I had expected but it worked great. Its heavy duty plastic. It feels really durable when installing. I would buy more if I ever needed them and I would recommend to anyone using the standard size 14 gauge wire included in most light kits. 5They work well I used these to splice in spotlights to my existing path light run. Using the popular Woods 16/2 wire, I had no problems. I used a small garden spade to dig a small hole to bury them. They are not much bigger than the standard pinch clips, but I wouldn't use in an exposed location. (I wouldn't use the pinch ones either). I used Zuckeo lights, which require extra wiring, and for ease of use with these connectors I used crimp butt connectors to splice to a piece of the same 16/2 wire. I suspect this made wiring a lot easier. For those who say the center bolt needs to be longer, there is a trick to avoid this. The nut on the back of the connector sits in a hex-shaped recess covered with silver tape. When tightened, this nut is drawn further into the body of the connector, but when loosened it stays where it is. If you want to make your connections very easy, fully tighten the connector BEFORE using it - tighten until the nut is drawn in, then loosen and remove the cap. The nut will be as close as possible to the cap and you will have no problem threading the bolt in to secure positive engagement. 5They are low profile and easily hidden under a deck rail Splicing outdoor lights into the main power line always poses some challenges. For lights on the ground, you can bury the wiring and it s not a big deal but for lights on fences, in trees or on decks sometimes it s hard to hide that splice.Malibu lights use a small set of clips that you simply pinch onto the wire with your hand. They are low profile and easily hidden under a deck rail. They re a bit flimsy but look good. Moonrays uses various splicing mechanisms including a large plastic block that clamps onto the main power line with three screws. These blocks are large and not easily hidden. I was looking for a smaller alternative to the Moonrays screwed on blocks and that s why I purchased these. The plus:They are easy to install and you simply screw the clamping knob hand tight onto the wire. No tools needed like the Moonrays blocks. Takes just a few seconds. The Negative:They re big. Even harder to hide than the plastic Moonrays blocks because the blocks are at least somewhat flat. These suckers are pretty tall and you re not going to hide them anywhere.Size and height doesn t matter if you re burying this splicing device. I suppose it won t show up the side of a tree or in a bush either. However, if you re going to use these on a deck or someplace where the wiring is visible, then you re going to want to go with something else.I have these 3 stars because they work OK but really are too large and unsightly for what I needed. They ll end up being used on lights that are in the garden. 3Great Product Easy to use and it makes a secure connection. Other users complained that they wish the screw were longer. I found that by tightening the screw all the way without the wires in place first, the screw draws the nut all the way up into the body. That way when the wires are in place the nut is much easier to reach with the end of the screw. 5Robust connectors Great robust set of connectors. A little difficult to get the low voltage cable to sit down completely in the channel - took some effort to get the metallic prongs to puncture the cable insulation. Suggestion for a design change: just make the fixing bolt a little longer (this is the bolt that holds the two halves together) - that way, you don't need to push down so hard to ensure that the prongs have punctured the insulation before the bolt threads engage. If the bolt threads can be made to engage sooner, then the bolt itself could assist with the puncture of the cable insulation and the seating of the cables. 4Excellent Product with Flawed Design! Have use Paradise lights for years and very satisfied compared to competitors. Same for replacement connectors. Splicer is very well made and very easy to use EXCEPT as others have noted the THUMBSCREW BOLT IS TOO SHORT. Even as delivered with no spliced wire inserted it's obvious the bolt is too short to easily fit into the required nut to properly tighten.. This is particularly true with larger sized cabling and with older more brittle cable. I resorted to squeezing carefully with channel locks and luckily nothing broke and I was successful after much effort. All that would be needed to fix this issue is to make the bolt slightly longer. 2About as good as it gets, which is good enough but just. Occasionally the plastic flexes and the pins don't make good contact penetrating the low voltage wire insulation. But they're not bad. Particularly on midside 14 gauge wire. 12 gauge works but sometimes makes the plastic flex. I needed to squeeze with a channel lock wrench to get it secured. Small gauges also need to be carefully aligned. There really aren't any good products in this category >This is about the best available. 3Limited lifetime I used 2 of these in my system and they worked great for 18 months, then enough water seeped in that the corrosion built up, the resistivity increased and the connector melted along with the wire insulation. I'd suggest checking them every couple months and replacing them before they melt down. Other than that, they were well made and easy to use. 3
