Customer Reviews

Perfect for SOHO use We needed a piece of furniture to organize the mess of cables, network equipment, and power bricks for our core home office network gear. After days of (fruitless) searching for standard office furniture that might be capable of handling this task, I finally thought of a free-standing rack. Apparently, if one allows the cable mess to sit in the open long enough, the WAF of a network rack increases exponentially. The 6U model probably would have worked, but I'm glad we went with the 9U, as it provides just a bit more breathing space for additional gear. The 12U would have been overkill (maybe). The rack arrived in flawless condition and was well-protected. Sturdily built and easy to work in due to the readily removable side panels and reversible door. Since we have no plans to mount the rack, I added some felt pads to the bottom and went to work. The pics and notes probably do a better job of explaining the rest. 5Exactly what I needed. Sweet cabinet, not a lot of coin. This seems to focus on networking equipment level installs and NOT for server rack mounts.Hardware:I could not find this answer anywhere, it did come with rack screws for both direct mount and screws/cage nuts, however, there was not enough hardware for either option if one was to use every U slot and every hole.-Minus 1 starI had to order RackGold 12/24 screws (50 pack) but that is extra cost. Oh well. The unit is nice no doubt and would not stop me from ordering again. There is NO mounting hardware nor I did not expect any. After fully loaded, I would not trust questionable/soft chinese bolts to hold this up anyways.I grabbed some 3/8 2" bolts with washers and lock nuts from hardware store for mounting to my custom made MDF backer board.I did create a joist hanger made out of two 2x3 lumber and 3/4 thick MDF for the backing board (see pic). I opted for this route instead of drilling into concrete. You will definitely need to consider what you will be mounting this to. My joist hanger mount worked perfectly and looks nice.I will post pics as my project develops. 4Tripp Lite 6U Wall Mount Rack Enclosure Server Cabinet, 16.5" Deep, Switch-Depth (SRW6U) When I was in the market for a server rack. I was just looking for one that can fit inside a small closet I had. I didn't really care about the rack being enclosed at all. This was the only one that could fit where I needed it so I purchased it.Pros:- The unit is modular, you can adjust the depth of the rack for really deep or shallow equipment. I had to adjust it for my equipment. Also The side panels and the door come off. So I have a one of the side panels off to run the cables in.- Locking door is nice, Not something I really needed but since it was there I use it.Cons: (The reasons why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5)- They only give you 12 screw, nuts and washers (Enough to mount 3 items at 4 screws each). This is perfect if you have three 2U items. Not me who needs 20 screws. I get it, it was probably to cut cost to sell this cheaper. So I looked at the accessories Tripp Lite sells for this unit and they sell a pack of 50 screw, nuts and washers which is way more then I need and its $25+ to buy them. So Tripp Lite lost my business there, and I bought a smaller 20 pack for $8 on amazon. Tripp Lite if you are reading this, sell smaller packs or include all the screws needed to fill the unit with all 1U equipment.-Tripp Lite marks and numbers all the slots in the rack where your equipment mounts too. Its nice if need to know how much space you have left. However this label is a sticker and I know if my sticker was cut wrong or to big, but it overhangs into the holes where the square nuts clip in. So this causes the square nuts to tare the stickers, This doesn't bother me because the rack is in a closet so I don't see it. These parts do come out (since you can adjust them), Tripp Lite should really print the labels on the pieces or at least stamp it, Probably again it's a sticker just to cut cost. 4Great case! Look no further. Amazing small rack! This rack is sturdy: built of solid metal and professionally assembled. Componets (sides, doors) are easily removed and installed with flipping and reconfiguring litersallly a snap of the locking mechanism. If I could improve the rack I would add cable tray runs to help use cables and potentially a place to mount a rack PDU.Rack supports up to four 120 MM fans (I'm using NZXT FN120v2 fans). There are many air flow entry points on the sides to ensure proper ventilation.I am using a RAXXESS Series 1U ventilated shelf (UNS-1) made by Chief to support my virtual server.Mounting was a breeze: bolted down with deck bolts (like you would use on a patio deck) into two 2x4 pieces of wood which I then screwed into the studs using 6" deck screws. As a test before I loaded it down with gear, I hung myself on the rack (I wouldn't advise it!) and it held all 250 lbs of me albeit with some creaking (only hung for about 3 seconds). Metal never bend or warped.Currently holds an APC SMARTUPS battery backup, Netgear switch, firewall, two virtual servers, modem, and external hard disks. It's been in production use for months now and I have zero complaints. Wish I had a use for a second one. ;-) 5Great enclosure Great price! Received this faster then promised. Opened and found a very good product. I installed it two days later and the management loved it. I will purchase this one again next time. It had the hardware to mount three devices (12 rack mounts) I installed a POE switch and needed to adjust the mounting frame, but it was no problem. I needed to access the ground lug after the installation and , with the removable side panels, it was easy access. 5product dimensions doesn't elaborate Product dimensions doesn't elaborate. It specifies correct measurements but doesn't elaborate which number belongs to which exact measurement. I submitted a question and both responses were wrong. Exact height if you're facing unit from top to bottom is exactly 14.5". However, you should technically allow 15" because there is a face plate covering a hole on top and bottom which adds a little height (just under 1/4 of an inch). 5Remarkable network cabinet money can buy. I've done much research before making this purchase. I'm so glad that I went with Tripp Lite. The quality of this cabinet (12u) is amazing. The door / cage hinges can swing or taken out so easily and smoothly without trouble. My contractors helped me to mount it to the wall and I was told it was a breeze to get it installed since it's pre-assembled and ready to go out of the box. This is my first network cabinet so I'm a little new installing my equipment and didn't do a very good job in cable management. Regardless, I love this case and I wish I would have purchased a larger but this smaller version will prevent me from spending more cash on IT toys... LOL.Cheers. 5Good rack, but be careful with the doors The rack is good looking and nicely constructed. The mounting bracket says it's patterned for 16" studs, but the holes are actually a little off 16", and the holes that are that width are not centered on the mounting plate, so the rack mounts either a few inches left or right (your choice) of the centerline between the studs. That's really odd and seems like they could have done better with that. If you need to center over studs, I recommend you install plywood over the studs, then affix the rack to the plywood. Also, since the rack has some weight and you know some weight will get added to it, you'll be tempted to use lag bolts to affix the mounting plate. Unfortunately, the way the rack and the mounting plate mate for installation, it can't clear a big head on a lag bolt--you need to use something that has a fairly flat head. Seems like this is something they could have done better at, as well. It makes me wonder if they've tried installing their own rack. Still, once it's up, it looks great and does its job. Other minor gripes: the left and right side panels are not hinged, so the first time you remove them, hold on to the panel as you remove it--when you pop the latch, you may expect it to swing out as if hinged, but it will actually fall out and drop to the floor (with possible damage). The front door is removable, but if you remove it, there are two little plastic sleeves that center the hinge pins in their holes that can (will) quietly drop off and go... somewhere... where you spend... seemingly hours... on the floor... looking for it... and if you don't find them, the door won't sit straight or close smoothly. Those little sleeves should be SNAP in, not DROP in. After my first bad experience, I started tacking them into the rack with clear caulk, and I also put a warning label inside the door at the hinge pins as a future reminder/warning to watch out for and hold on to these important little parts when removing the door. 3Factory workers pulled a fast one This is the 12U wall-mount enclosure. Haven't mounted it yet, but I'm a bit disappointed in the attitude they have in the factory. The side is very sloppily assembled, not well aligned, and they tried to cover up scratches and bad welding with black magic marker. The marker is very obvious in the light.Box was factory-sealed and in plastic, so this wasn't a return; this was done at the factory. I need this right now, and the thing is enormous, so I'm not going to bother trying to return it.As a warning: for wall-mount, this is very heavy. Seeing how the sides are assembled, I wouldn't be comfortable having this mounted without having a couple gusset brackets underneath it, and that's when it's empty. Load it up a little, and I'd be very afraid of stressing the welds.I plan to use this for a 48 port switch, a couple patch panels and two routers. 3Great product! Make sure you plan and measure all your devices first. Move the front rails before your install your device Very solid rack! The installation was very easy. I used two screws directly on a stud and the other 2 using a snaptoggler [...] in the dry-wall. This gave me up to 275 lbs on the screws, which is 75lbs more than the rack can handle. One advice is to plan your installation and all the equipments you will put in before you start anything. I'm saying that because after install all my stuff I realized that my power switch will not allow the front lid to close. Then I realized I could have scooped the front rails backwards to get more space. Now I have everything in place, including my cable management, I just don't want to do it and it will stay as it is.I do recommend this product and maybe will get a bigger one to accommodate some of the devices I have in other rooms of my house. 5
