Customer Reviews

My #1 favorite worklight! This light can't be beat when working on the underbelly of an automobile. Puts the light right where it is needed. I keep one attached to the side of my computer tower (on a shelf above the screen and keyboard). In the event of a power outage I do not even need to get out of my seat to have light. I power mine with rechargeable batteries and always have spares on hand. I do not know how long the charge lasts but it runs pretty economically. Our original light was left in the tool shed for a couple years after my late husband's death and it did not survive the extreme conditions (tin roof no A/C or heat). I vow to respect it's replacement and treat it nicely. 5Ulman RT2-LT rotating magnetic light I purchased this light in Jan 2015. I used it primarily to shine light onto my rolling tool box drawers. Secondary use was to light up dark areas on my motorcycle when I work on it. Overall it is a good light. Bright enough for my use, and the price was good. The magnet and roating feature is why I purchased it, and it was very useful. But..... As of October 2016 the light started flickering. After checking the batteries, I took it apart. and check the switch. The switch is faulty, and is causing the flickering. I wont complain too much as $15.00 for 1 1/2 years is not bank breaker, but I have cheap $3.00 flashlights that are 10 years old that still work, so I did expect a longer lifespan. 3Pretty Awesome for Auto Repair I bought this to try it out for working on my old truck, specifically for crawling around underneath and trying to seeing into all the nooks and crannys. My existing shop lights or flashlights provided bright light but I could not keep them aimed very well and they were useless if there was not a straight path from the floor to the interested area. The magnets on this thing are enough that you have to provide a concerted effort to pull them off a piece of steel. The first time I tested, I went to pull the light off and it wouldn't come off, I had to grip it and give it a serious tug. The amount of lighting provided is definitely sufficient and I had no complaints. I even doubled-down and bought the 48-LED version which is seriously bright and quite a bit bigger (I will keep this one too, but will probably use it more selectively due to larger size and same magnet strength). The only thing I don't like is how the red trim ring screws to the base, it seems a bit dodgey. Also, I am not sure if this light will be durable enough for repeated and daily abuse, but it works well enough and the price is right that I would gladly consider replacing these occasionally a cost of doing business. 5It's a very useful tool Like many reading this review I've bought different LED lights with magnets and ended up sticking them to the lid of a toolbox effectively retiring them forever because they weren't useful enough. Several times I just went back to using ordinary flashlights propped up on something. Then I bought this little rotating work light, and it's become the first light I grab for everything from welding in dark areas to attaching to different machine tools. The light is bright and stays put when rotated into position even when subjected to vibration, and the magnet is quite strong. I've dropped it several times for other reasons than magnet failure without damaging it. It ends up being used as a simple flashlight a lot because it's handy. If I had one criticism, it's that the light won't rotate to a full 90 degrees to the magnetic base--it would be far more useful if it did. But it's the most useful magnetic light that I've used so far. I just ordered a second one to save myself a bit of walking fetching it because it tends to be needed in more than one place. If you buy one of these, you likely won't be disappointed. 5So far the best utility light I've used for tight spaces. This is the same review as I put on the big one. They are virtually the same light, They have about the same intensity, one just has a bigger illumination spot. So if you wondered like me if you had to get the big one to get the lighting you need, you don't. The only difference I saw was with the size, not the intensity of the spot it created.I have a project car in my garage. Working on wires under the dash can be a challenge. The wires have a variety of colors with a variety of colored stripes on them, so the fact that the light it produces is white is a big help. Because there is an inherent bit of blue in white LED lights, the fact that it is very bright (you can't even look directly at it) actually makes it possible to see the proper colors. The magnetic mount is a big help because who ever has a spare hand to hold a light while working on a car? There is a lot of steel on a car. The But don't fear that the magnets will scratch anything, the rubber base makes for soft contact. The swivel mount allows you to position the light over a wide variety of angles. I think that a wide variety of lights is always necessary when working in tight quarters, but this light comes the closest to being a "do everything" light. I highly recommend it.Plus a couple of hints. I recommend putting a little baggie or piece of plastic wrap over the base, because even though the rubber won't scratch anything the magnets are decently strong and can pick up little metal bits, which could scratch or just gather on the magnets. This way you can put the baggie off and the metal bits just fall off.The aluminum housing is not much of a selling point. It is very thin and even flexes just like a piece of plastic, plus the rest of the light is made of plastic. I guess at least you won't have to worry about it cracking from heat or anything.Just to make it clear, I am not affiliated with the product in any way. I just do a lot of work in dark confined places and I'm always having trouble holding lights on my work until I got these. I said to myself, "finally a light for me." Then I bought two more. The small one is just as good as the big one. I could easily have lived with the small one. They are equally bright, the big one just has a larger "spot." 5almost perfect.... Very strong magnet, nice bright light, use them in my work van for lighting up my tool box and parts bins. they look great, the swivel part feels kind of cheap, but they have stayed where I position them despite bumpy roads. my only complaint is the on/off switch, both of them had touchy switches, that sometimes didnt shut off or turned on while i was driving, turns out the switch itself wasnt completely snapped together. I had to take them apart get to the switch and pinch the plastic halves together and they have worked fine ever since. They had a gap of about 1/16th of an inch, sloppy workmanship or uncalibrated assembly machine, but easily fixed. 4Very bright, nice magnetic base. Only downside is the AAA batteries. I'm giving this thing 4 stars instead of 5 only because it takes AAA batteries, which I hate. AA batteries are not much bigger, but pack a lot more power - they last 2-3 times as long for not being all that much larger physically. The magnetic base is strong, and the light is really bright. I find myself using this all the time in the garage when I am working on a car. It is very nice to be able to stick it on to something metal and point it right where I need it, knowing it is not going to move.My only complaint is the battery life due to the AAA batteries. After an afternoon of use, the batteries are worn out and need to be replaced. I have replaced the batteries many times already after using this light on several projects.Yes, I do see that the same company makes a bigger version of this same light that runs off AA batteries. I did not buy that one because it is a lot more expensive and some reviewers mention the magnetic base is not strong enough. Maybe I will end up buying one anyways and swapping the bases if I need to.I will just keep a stash of AAA batteries in my toolbox and replace them more often than I would like. Aside from my complaint about the batteries, this is a great little light. Very bright and very convenient. I hardly ever use my old corded shop light anymore since I got this thing. 4The perefct answer for that dark corner of your closet I've been waiting for a solution like this for a long time: head that can swivel in any direction; strong light output; magnetic mount that's easy to reposition or remove for battery changing; easy access to battery compartment. I have a bedroom closet that has a 3 foot extension (past the sliding door opening) that is dark as a cave and nowhere near any existing electrical circuits. I've used numerous approaches in the past with limited success: hanging a dedicated flashlight from the ceiling; bulky incandescent light fixture running on C-batteries; and Sylvania DOT-It LED puck lights.I thought the puck lights would be a good solution, but they have several serious shortcomings: only point in one direction; weak light output from non-state of the art LEDs and only 3 of them; adhesive back mounting that's either hard to dislodge, ruins the surface it's stuck to, or prone to falling off unexpectedly; laughably inconvenient battery changing issues (must pry loose from the wall and undo 3 tiny screws to get the battery compartment open).I expected I might need 2 or more of these Ullman lights to cover the whole area but the head rotates so comprehensively that I only needed one. And I can always easily detach this if I needed to shine it into some unexpected nook. Since the light is only on for short, infrequent period of time, I'm expecting good battery life. Anyone who uses these as a true work light, where it's on for long periods of time, may want to use rechargeables.Mounting Tip: I had no metal in the closet to attach this to. I went to the electrical section of my local hardware store and bought a blank metal cover for an electrical box (single gang) for less than a dollar (rectangular, about 3" x 4") and sunk 2 screws right into the plaster. Now I've got a neat, clean mounting surface for a fixture that actually looks like it's hard-wired. Two important caveats: (1) the metal cover must be steel, not aluminum; bring the Ullman light with you to check or find where they sell utility magnets in the hardware store and see if they cling to the metal cover; (2) you MUST solidly anchor the screws into your drywall or plaster - at least using good quality conical plastic sleeves and properly sized screws - the rare earth magnets on the light are VERY strong and will yank off the metal plate when you try to detach the light, unless you have it anchored properly - even then, I'd recommend sliding the light off sideways from the plate instead of pulling it directly back, perpendicular to the wall. 5Overall A Recommended Light Bought one based off the reviews here since I wanted a small light with a lot of power which I didn't have to hold while working under the hood. It's definitely bright and attaches strongly to the metal underside of the hood. Doesn't hold so well if you try to attach it to any underside part of the hood which has a covering over it. The magnet only goes so far.The only con I ran into was when a couple times I accidentally knocked off the light or it fell off due to not being attached completely (my hood doesn't have a bunch of purchase points for the magnet to hold onto). The light housing broke apart and the batteries came out. Sounds like a minor complaint, but try looking for 3 AAA batteries in the engine in daylight, let alone at night. A more secure housing would be nice. That being said, all the LEDs continued to function and the glass didn't have any scratches. One recommendation I'd make for any redesign is the ability to make the light less narrow. Having a tight beam can be useful, but it's also nice to be able to widen out the beam a little.Overall, a good light to have and I'd recommend it. 5Great idea, just not a bright enough one... Great little light. Cons: not as bright as I'd expected and battery life not great.I added a metal plate above my workbench so that I could "spotlight" hard to see items or read packing, etc.. the set up is great, just wish the light was brighter! 4
