Customer Reviews

Not effective enough to warrant a purchase for modern video cards (Crossfire review) I bought this to help maintain the temperatures when using two Gigabyte 7950's in crossfire configuration. I'm also running three 24" Asus monitors but still generally game on 1 screen at 1080p. This allows me to easily monitor the temperatures through AMD CCC and other programs. I have tried this fan in multiple locations and found that the very bottom PCI slot was the only spot that made it effective at all. Before using this fan, with crossfire enabled and ULPS disabled these were my temps:Top Card without fan:Idle: 51 C - 53 CLoad: 60 C - 70 CTop Card with fan at 100%:Idle: 50 C - 52 CLoad: 60 C - 69 CBottom Card without fanIdle: 42 C - 43 CLoad: 58 C - 65 CBottom Card with fan at 100%:Idle: 41 C - 43 CLoad: 58 C - 65 CThe load varies more than idle temps because it's averaged between different games.I tested a few games, including DayZ, Arma 3, Assetto Corsa, Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, Witcher 2, and Battlefield 3 and 4, but I am admittedly new to using Crossfire. I've found that Battlefield 3 and 4 both run fairly well with crossfire minus the typical crashes that BF4 has. Using Crysis 3 however, fan or not...I get great frame rates (60+) but even with vsync on, the temps will eventually rise above 80 C and the game will start to freeze up, sometimes the video card driver will fail and I have to reboot the computer. This could just be an issue with Crysis 3 and crossfire. Either way, I think that this card does still work as intended, but it has also been around since January 2004, so keep that in mind if you are buying it to lower temps on a new video card since newer cards have MUCH better fan technology (My Gigabyte cards use "Windforce" technology which is very effective overall). I am going to look into water cooling my top card next. I'll let you know how it goes. It is also very loud considering how ineffective it is, I would say if your video card was released in the last 4 years then this will not help you. 2Works perfectly and does everything I wanted and more I just purchased/received/and installed the Vantec SP FC70-BL Spectrum Fan card with the adjustable 70mm x2 UV LED Fans. First of all, it was extremely simple to install AND IT DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY SURPRISES THAT ARE UNWANTED. Slide the plastic PCI inserts included on the fan card directly into a blank PCI slot and connect the power supply and you are off and running. Secondly, this little double 70mm fan card setup is very powerful and pumps out some serious air flow (3500 RPMs). I used it for extra dual GPU SLI cooling. I put it right between my two EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX 560ti video cards and it fit "perfectly". It increased the air flow to both of my GPU cards by at least 50%. The video cards already have a single fan installed on each of them, combined with the Cooler Master HAF-X tower's air duct 120mm fan that blows air directly onto the video cards, and the large 200mm case fan that pushes air directly onto the sides of each GPU, the Vantec fan system provides another 3500RPM per 70mm fan, the GPU's provide fan speeds up to 5,500RPM each, the 120mm duct fan provides air flow up to 1500RPMs. This extra air flow the Vantec provided brought my over all GPU temperatures down from approx. 70 to 80 degrees Celsius to 60 to 65 degrees Celsius. You can run your GPUs hotter than any other hardware in your computer. Temperatures up to 95 degrees Celsius are not uncommon, but not recommended over long periods of of high load usage and serious high end gaming. Also, I almost forgot to mention that the Vantec fan card is 100% manually adjustable from the outside/rear of your case in the back where you installed the card into the PCI slot. Thus, at the lowest setting the fan is still spinning, but only at about 700-1000 RPMs, which you can not hear at all. However, when you crank it up for some serious additional air flow you can really hear the super fast 70mm fans spin up to 5000 RPMs producing a lot of extra air flow to what ever component you have it directed at. I would most definitely recommend this modular fan card for anyone who is serious about reducing overall inside tower temperatures on you computer. Oh ya, it also looks pretty cool as well. It has an installed blue LED/UV light that looks good under any circumstance, especially at night. Every now and then you run across something that does "exactly" what you want it to do and what it is advertised to do and this was one of those devices that did exactly that. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!! 5Good fans This is my second second purchase of this fan and the first lasted even when I sold my PC to a friend it still going...the noise is not terrible it's not a concern to me..perhaps it's noisy to some people...it moves slot of air out of the back of my video card....GTX 1060 and my old one was GTX 560 by Asus that card ran hot not so much this oneOn my PC I have molex connection it's a Dell 5610 workstation so power supply not a ATX if u need adapter I got this one a star techSATA to LP4 with 2x SATA Power Splitter Cable....Works great I'm using a sata to power the molex for the fan...I like the blue lighting effect and the air moving it's good to have extra movement in summer time PC gets hot if using a video card ..good product I would buy again ... 5loud and bright, but convenient, cheap, and why not have it just in case? Keep in mind this will not draw more cold air in to your case! This is if you have done all you can with case fans and still have high GPU temps. That said, this will drop temps by maybe just 2-3 degrees Celsius under heavy load, but what it is great at is making it take longer for the GPU to reach its high temps, and allow it to cool down quicker after heavy load.Pros - it's easy to install, sits right below the GPU, requires no custom modification of your graphics card and allows you to add more fans than you case allows.Cons - its loud at max of course, but I was expecting it to be quieter when it was all the way low. I wish it could be turned all the way off for when I'm not gaming. Also the lights are a bit overpowering. I wish it was subtle or just didn't have any color. Also keep in mind this is not powered by your PCI slot, it connects to your PSU with a typical fan power connector. 3Get ready for the noise! At it's lowest setting ... Get ready for the noise! At it's lowest setting it is louder than my case fans at 75% speed. There is no "off" setting (though I plan on taking it from it's molex connector and putting it into a 4-pin fan header and plugging it into the mother board so I can control it through software and allowing me to put it into an "off" mode. The color is exactly how it's depicted in other customer photos. (I was going to post my own, but they all look the same as what is already on here. For the price, it is hard to beat. I noted a 12-14 degree drop in temperature while playing higher end games with this thing on it's lowest setting. I have yet to have to turn it up.I was playing Ghost Recon Wildlands on 4k and saw 82C on my graphics card. With this little guy on low the graphics card had a hard time getting above 68C. I know I could have just changed my fan-curve on the graphics card itself, but I would rather burn out this cheap little guy instead.BE READY FOR THE SOUND! 4Works but LOUD! I have a Ceton quad PCIe tuner card that was overheating so I bought this to help keep it cool. While it worked for that, the fan is loud, even at low settings, which is not something one wants in a home theater PC. I'm not sure how effective this would be for a card that generates a lot of heat, however.I can't put up with the noise so I am replacing this. Even on its lowest setting, I can easily hear it over everything else in my living room. The computer is sitting in a cabinet enclosed on three sides and I can still easily hear it. It is by far the loudest component in the computer. 2It works great for Hot Raid Cards. This pci slot fan is great, nice that it has an adjustable speed using a switch you can access outside the case. I purchased this to use in a Micro ATX case that I have a LSI Raid card in. Those cards get extremely hot when they are not in a server chassis with fans with high cfm. This was easy to install, looks good and cooled the card down instantly. AT half speed it is not very loud, almost the same as lowest speed, but this puppy will crank at full speed. 5Loud, Whiney, Ineffective, and Not Quite Blue Even at its lowest speed, this thing is louder than my 8 other case fans combined. I put it right under my GPU. I ran the "Heaven" benchmark program which monitoring temps with Speccy and fan speed with AMD's driver/gaming program. I did not see any reduction in temps, any reduction in GPU fan speed, or any improvement in benchmark scores/framerate. Also be aware that it does not seem to be a true blue. At least it clashes with my blue led Corsair fans. It has a very slight purple tint. 1noisy even at the lowest setting. Tried to use it to cool HBA card, cooling effect is okay when placed right next to the HBA, also has this interesting fake PCI 'finger' design which keeps it from sagging too much. But it is noisy even at the lowest setting, very very noticeable if all your other fans are quiet ones (like the brand which starts with a N and usually has red-brownish colored fan blades).LEDs are also bright and can't be turned off, though not might not be an issue for everyone. 2Excellent VGA cooler I'am glad I bought this. I needed this for my new Gigabyte R9 390 because I did not like how hot my card was getting when I was gaming. When I played Black Ops 3 my card was getting really hot up to 92c, that did not make me comfortable at all. So I was looking for VGA coolers to cool down my card, I did not want to do a water cooler because I love the blue LED windforce logo on my card, one of the reason why I went with gigabyte, it matches my blue theme but anyways this fits the bill nicely. It lights up blue lights so thats a plus, and you can adjust the fan speed but I just leave mine at medium settings because high is really loud. The lowest is not that quite its still louder than my other fans in my case but I have fan controllers for those too that make them dead silent. This my R9 390 go from 92c down to 72c which is just fantastic, but I also zip tied 120mm fan on the hard drive cage to blow air onto the card directly but this works though. I put it into a PCI-e slot near to my R9 390, so it indeed does helps you cool your card. Now my graphics card fans do not run loud at all anymore, and the temps are great. I think this is a good investment if you have a high end card and want to extend its life and the fans life on it. 5
