Customer Reviews

I used these on red oak and they worked fine. Like any tool most of your results depend ... I only had 4 doors to do so I didn't want to spend 100.00 on a bit set. I used these on red oak and they worked fine. Like any tool most of your results depend on how you use it. I had to use some of the enclosed shims to get a tight fit on the rail ends, and I made several test cuts to get everything set up correctly. I made at least 3 passes on every cut, about 1/8" each time and they fit very well. Like someone else said be sure to check the nuts for tightness, mine were loose so I checked them after every few cuts. My only complaint is that there was a Allen wrench in the box, which I guess was intended to hold the shaft while you tighten the nuts, but the shafts on mine are not machined for the Allen wrench. I just used the router to hold them when I tightened the nut so no big deal really. I suppose their not good enough for tool snobs but I'd recommend them for the average weekend woodworker. 4Instructions would have been nice!If you use this bit set you'd better have some experience with something similar or be prepared to spend a good deal of time and scrap pieces to obtain that experience. There were NO instructions with these bits. On the plus side, there are YouTube videos showing how to use similar bits and that eased the learning curve somewhat. Once you figure it out you'll find the bits actually work quite well. Also, once you do figure it out be sure to make and save setup blocks for the next time....4Will not glue up square, bits don t match anglesAfter using these bits I see why the cheap price. As a professional cabinet builder I thought since I had a couple dozen doors to make these bits would be okay? Nothing but a wast of money. The angles cuts on each bit Does Not match up. Every door I have assembled, the stiles are at angle to rails., I will upload pic. If bits are at correct angle , they should glue up 90 degrees, not 93, 94 .1I d buy them againI recently built my own bench top router table. It didn t take me long to realize that the table was taking up too much real estate. So, I decided to build a rolling cabinet to put it on. I ordered these bits to build proper shaker doors for that cabinet.First, let me start by saying that I was skeptical given that the price paid was at least 1/3 of the price of the cheapest name brand matched set you d find at your local big box store. I opened the box and was pleasantly surprised to see a nice wooden box to store the bits in while not in use. I opened that wooden box to some stylish looking bits as well as a very plainly written set of instructions regarding the do s and don ts to using them. Seeing the instructions state not to perform any deeper passes that 1/4 and using slow speed told me that this is the reason many are seeing carbide explosions when using the set. They are simply working to fast or asking the set to do too much at one time. Anyway, setup is a pain. I dropped my rating one star simply for the fact that I would have loved to see a set up block for the standard 3/4 material setup. Instead, I was forced to place a piece of material next to the bit as I dialed in my router lift. Having the setup block would have saved valuable time here. In any case, I got each bit set up, followed the manufacturer instructions regarding safe use of the set and performed nearly flawless cuts. It was $25 well spent in my opinion.4Would have been a 5 except...Ordered and received in good time. Both bits were contained in a nice wooden display box.Needed it for a project so I used them right away. Or at least tried...First bit worked great but on the first pass with the other bit, the shaft shattered just below the cutting head and sent the bit flying across the workshop.Put a nice dent in the drywall but luckily enough, it didn't hit me.I've never seen a shaft break like this and hope I never do!Returned the set and received a the replacements in good time but it was the next weekend before I could get back to the project. No issues with this set and they cut great!4Excellent ValueI'm the first to admit that I am pretty much a novice on the routing front but have worked with wood for many, many years so I have a good idea of what works and what doesn't. For the price, the Yonico router bits are a great option for a good price. There is no question that it is possible to spend more money for some other brands and I might consider that if I were a professional wood worker but for the average user these are probably more than you will ever need. The bits came quickly and were as described. They appeared to be well machined and durable (time will tell but all indications are good). I'm running several of the Yonico bits (from smaller to large 3" bits " shank) with a 3 hp Triton router - all run true without vibration and consistently provide clean cuts. They are well sharpened when the arrive - again time well tell how they hold their edge but at the price if they get average wear I'll be happy and would replace them with more of the same. A few reviewers have made some negative comments but thus far my experiences haven't confirmed any of the problems noted so they may anomalies or a matter of particular use or circumstance. I've been making raised panel cabinet doors without any problem and couldn't be happier with these bits. It might be possible that some of the negative experiences have come from a poor match between some of the larger bits and an under-powered router (particular if they are " shank) - there is no question that can create poor performance regardless of the router bit brand. For my money - these bits are great and do the job.5Great for average useI wanted to do some panel doors without a lot of frill. These have a nice sharp look to them. I have been happy with other yonico bits and since I might not use these again for a few years the price is right.5Good tools, great for the money.Just caught myself looking at a Freud shaker set to replace my trusty Yonico. I had just started to cut some doors to redo the kitchen and noticed a little burning on the coping cuts. Maybe time to replace? Then it dawned on me that I had gotten some really good results from my current set and why change now especially since this my be my last cabinet remodel. With my old set I did a ton of stuff for our Florida condo including new kitchen cabinets, kitchen island, floor to ceiling dressers, large vanity and a king sized bed with a ton of doors and drawers. Ran those puppies hard. If I need to replace them to finish this project I ll get another set of Yonicos.Let me share a few things I figured out while using this set:1. Buy or make a coping sled. Bad joints and gaps are usually due to bad work holding on the coping cuts.2. The adjustments needed to get the joint alignment right can be tedious but well worth the trouble to reduce required sanding. I just sprung for a router lift and it makes adjustments sooo much easier.3. Get your feeds and speeds right or at least close. This will improve surface finish and tool life.4. Think beefy setup. Good table, good fence, good router and good featherboards.5. Panel fit.....from reading some of these reviews I see that this is a common complaint. What I do is fit the panel to the slot instead of the slot to the panel. For shaker panels I use 3/8 MDF (I know it s hard to find) and rabbet the perimeter to the proper thickness. This makes the panel flush with the back of the frame and much more rigid than a 1/4 panel. Again beefy is better.6. Glue up and clamping......don t overclamp. I made a few banana shaped drawer fronts before I figured this out. Run of the mill bar clamps usually apply pressure a little off square and can easily produce the aforementioned banana if over tightened. Parallel jaw clamps help a lot but just being careful usually works. Or just crank it tight and paint it yellow.Bottom line is.that I own quite a few Yonico bits and have always been satisfied with them. If I did a lot more woodworking, I might spring for Freud or whatever, but I don t and I ll probably stick with Yonico.5Perfect, but you probably have to add the included shim My first join looked like the photo of the (current) top reviewer - large gap. But there is a photo on the main amazon page that explains how to fix this. I added two shims, a now my join is perfect. Excellent bits. 5Well worth your $ Took a chance after reading some other negative reviews, and am thrilled I did! Great value. Bits cut clean, and the joint was tight. No gaps as mentioned by others. Perfect fit around a 1/4" MDF ply. Great bits, THRILLED with the price! 5Bent shafts? These were packaged very well. The wooden storage box is also very nice. At first glance the bits looked to be decent quality and very sharp. After installing one of the two bits in my router table I realized it was bent. Upon checking the second bit, it also didn t rotate true. Would recommend buying a better named product than these. Guess I had my hopes set too high. 1Accurate and work well on thicker stockI'm very happy with these. They are quite sharp and are holding an edge. They are cutting very accurately and boards fit together well. I'm using with a Porter Cable Trim router mounted in a plywood table top and am finding them very easy to use. I know cheaper routers can cause bit problems so I'm wondering if that is some of the other reviewers problems. Porter Cables are always rock solid with no extra vibrations. I'm quite happy with the set. I used to work at a high end wood shop and was totally spoiled for tools. Now I just work on fun projects for the house and display cases for my artwork for shows and store displays. They really are made for 7/8 to 1 inch stock. They will work on 3/4 inch stock but somewhere top or bottom ends up being a little thin. Not ideal but it does work. The slot easily holds standard Luan Plywood but it is just a little bit loose. Which may be good when humidity comes in summer. I also have a large Yonico boxed set of bits and they are also holding up well. All have been a very good buy for the price. I'm happy with them in first six months of use.5Bueatiful look. Simple, modern, and classy.I built an entire kitchen using these bits. Customer fell in love with the design I chose for them. Been getting a lot of calls for more work. And even though I built over 55 linear feet of kitchen with these bits they are still sharp and the bearings are still in perfect condition. I bought a second set and haven't even used them yet. Very very happy.5" Once I dialed these bits in the fitment was perfect, nice and sharpIn response to the other reviews of this product; there are instructions included in the box on how to shim the style bit to eliminate the fitment "gap." Once I dialed these bits in the fitment was perfect, nice and sharp, and was just what I needed to crank out four sets of red oak cabinet doors.5
