Customer Reviews

Great replacement for Canon sx20is lens cap I recently purchased a used Canon sx20is digital camera and found that the Canon lens cap was, as other sx20is owners have pointed out, not very good. In my experience the Canon lens cap fell off the camera at the slightest touch. I read the user reviews on this cap and thought I would give it a try. I am happy I did as it appears to fit much better and fits into the lens much more securely. While I probably won't use it myself, the cap does have a small pass-through hole to allow for the attachment of a lens cap leash. The only complaint I have, and it is a minor one, is that with a lens hood attached to the camera, and the lens cap in place, it was very difficult for my fingers to reach in and pinch the release points to remove the cap. The indentations for the release points (for lack of a better name - sorry) may be to shallow for some people and may cause some irritation after a while. But without the hood the cap works very well and is worth considering. 4Great little addition for photographers Canon lens caps are pressed only on the edges. This is very inconvenient for use with a lens hood.A simple center snap lens cap like this is really nice for any Canon photographer since they can be attached with a lens hood on. I've been using mine for years now and never use the original Canon cap. I generally buy this kind of cap as soon as I get another Canon lens.Nikon photographers have it easier since their lens caps are already center pinch designs. I suppose a Canon photographer could use a Nikon lens cap but the Canon camera (or photographer) will probably break out in a rash.If you are shopping for others, this could serve as a simple stocking stuffer. Getting a nice little collection of standard sizes like 52 mm or 58 mm would be a good idea and serves as backups for the potential lost caps with even a Nikon shooter. A larger size like this 72 mm is for a more expensive lens than the typical kit lens. You can check the size that they need if you sneak a peak at their lenses - it will be printed on each lens.Another benefit is that it helps to make the camera a little bit less conspicuous for thieves. (Still clear but at least it doesn't scream out "Canon" or "Nikon" which some people might read as "Steal Me"In any case, it makes another good Amazon "filler" item to get to free shipping. 5A comparison of three different inexpensive 58mm lens caps I purchased three different inexpensive 58mm caps from Amazon at the same time: (1) this cap, (2) Fotodiox Inner pinch Lens Cap with Cap Keeper, 58mmand (3) the 58mm Snap-On Universal Lens Cap. All arrived relatively quickly, but this arrived first. This lens cap, although a little thicker than a flexible press-on, works well with my DSLR manufacturer's 58mm filter-size lenses. It has a larger gripping surface than the default caps provided with their lenses, and so stays in place. The clamping mechanism has more travel than the original manufacturer's lens caps and so is slightly easier to install and remove. The cap and its clamp appear well constructed and should be long lasting. However, this cap does not include a tether as does both the "Fotodiox" and "Universal" caps.Bottom Line - If you don't need a tether, of the three caps purchased this cap appears the best choice. If you'd like a tether then the Fotodiox cap is the better choice, particularly if you have larger fingers and may have trouble squeezing a tighter pinch mechanism, such as found on the 58mm Snap-on Universal Lens cap. The Fotodiox cap is just easier to use than the Universal Cap.Just remember that the cap you select stays with the camera not with the lens. Thus, it's advisable to leave an extra 58mm cap in your camera bag for those times you remove a 58mm filter-size lens for one with a different filter-size thread. 5Sturdy and Secure Most buyers of this product seem to have done so either because they wanted a higher-quality version that wouldn't fall off, or because they lost the kit lens cap. Originally I fell into the latter camp, and picked this one up for a very low price. I ended up finding my original lens cap, which I still prefer for aesthetic reasons. In the process, I realized why so many people buy this for the former reason. The pinch-activated triggers secure the cap firmly and ensure the lens is covered all the way. My Canon kit lens cap, while pleasingly thin, often slips off on one side, leaving the door open for dust to enter and for the cap to fall of. The mechanism on this Zeikos product is also more ergonomic to use than most. It gives your fingers leverage, and when you release the triggers you know the cap is secure because you can feel it lock into place. 5This product fits perfectly on the stock lens of the Canon Rebel Xsi After losing the stock lens cap for my DSLR, I wanted to look for cheap replacement and this product fits what I was looking for. The center pinch feature is more convenient than the stock outside pinch feature. You can get a better grip with the center pinch and there is little fumbling of the cap. I like that it is low profile and does not include the attachment to the lens as I find that it gets in the way of most shots and I would much rather store the cap in my pocket or camera bag. Get this product if you lost your cap or even if you just want an extra cap to protect your lens! 5Slips from my fingers Look, I'm happy to have found a center-pinch that fits my 58mm lens. Great. The problem is, I guess I've got big, fat fingers so it is difficult for me to grasp it and pull it off without the cap falling out of my fingers. I want a cap that has deeper indents so I can grasp it. What I did to make it better was to spread Goop ( http://smile.amazon.com/Amazing-All-Purpose-Household-3-7-Ounce-130012/dp/B0000A605I ) lightly on the part where you grasp the cap, it dries rubbery so it provides grip so your fingers don't slide.I'm not happy that I had to do that, although it did work, so I give it three stars. I'm even thinking about trying this ( http://www.lensmateonline.com/store/plasticClipLensCap58.php? ) lens cap because it specifically says it is ergonomic "even for large fingers." I'll write back if anything changes or improves. 3SHOCKED by excellent fit and quality i've never been shocked by a good deal before. When i ordered this i was just looking for ANYTHING that would fit my nikon 70-200 2.8 that i didn't have to spend much money on as i was selling the lens.Well, this sucker comes in a really nice plastic case. Similar to expensive B+W filters i've purchase. So far so good i thought to myself, but.. does it fit!? I'll tell you very honestly, it fit better than the nikon cover i had lost! and it was much more solid feeling. The photo that Amazon has makes this lens cap look cheap honestly and the price backs that up, but i'm going to buy one of these for each of my lenses now. This little sucker is great.**Update 12/30/2012 -- Switched over to Canon and ordered another one of these for my new 24-105 f4 lens and it works great. Snug fit, doesn't slip off and about a billion times better than the silly Canon Lens cap that came with the lens. Went to a shoot just today and a couple other Canon shooters saw my cap and were practically tripping over themselves to ask me where i got it...Pros:excellent pricevery high quality product and packagingexcellent fitexcellent materials qualityCons:poor amazon photo! thats it! 5Have you seen my lens cap? Lint, finger smudges and chewed bubble gum BE GONE! My lens is safe once more. I lost my last one in a Mexican restaurant in California. Granted it looks like a burned tortilla, so I suppose it makes sense that nobody could understand me on both occasions that I called, asking if they still had it. It might also be that they didn't speak English very well and "lens-cap" isn't in their vocabulary - though they make a mean taco!I wanted to get a good lens cap. Not just something made out of duct-tape, but something that says "this big honking lens is my precious baby and in no way signifies insecurity in my masculinity".It clicks into place perfectly and fits just as cleanly and securely as the original Nikkor lens cap that unclasped its way into the big tostada in the sky. *sniff* 5It functions as described, but... I purchased this product because it seemed like the best bang for the buck and had decent reviews. I needed a lens cap for my 72mm adapter tube that way I wasn't required to take it off just to put my lens cap on. This product functions as described, and in fact it fits more securely then the OEM cover on my camera. However, when I first opened the package and pulled out the product, I noticed there were some scuffs or scrapes on the edges of the cap. Not a big deal, but still, this is a new item... should be packaged in top condition. Also, the picture appears to show a loophole for a string, however the hole does not go all the way through the body so you can't feed a string through. To remedy this I used a small drill bit, roughly 1/8 of an inch, and carefully drilled it out myself so you can get a string through it. So, the product works as described and quite well, but loses one star for the damage and not having a proper loophole cast in the cap. 4Very nice economy lens cap, better than OEM in some ways I bought this cap to replace the Canon cap that came with the lens, as it had no inner pinch tabs. If you use a lens hood most of the time, as I do, you really need lens caps with inside pinch tabs, and these Zeicos caps fill the bill for a very reasonable price. It fits and holds on to the B+W UV filter on my Canon 24-105 f4L lens at least as firmly as the OEM cap does, and the inner pinch tabs offer enough grip to my fat-sausage fingers to get the cap on and off even under the lens hood. Build quality seems good. It may not advertise "CANON" to everyone that looks at it, like the OEM cap does, but I'll take function over looks any day. Highly recommended as a replacement or spare lens cap. 5
